After reading these posts I am still happy with the Puget Sound region of Western Washington, the only caveat is you should tolerate moss. It is very green here. Many years back, in the late half of the .com boom (circa 2001..ish), there was a site that asked you like.. 300 questions and then would tell you what your ideal location would be based on how you answered. When I did the survey, it told me Tacoma was the best-fit (78%) for me. If I ever do get/need the opportunity to move and relocate, I'd probably go to PNW, as well. Kentucky sounds like it might be warm enough for me to live there. what are the gun laws like? Country music has become popular all around the US. But it's not like it's playing everywhere as you walk in the park and drive around town. You can listen to whatever music you like. I don't like country and I live in Texas. No one forces country music upon me. I choose to live in Texas because it's warm (most of the time) and there is no state income tax to pay. It may not be the best place to live, but it's not the worst. This may sound like I'm defending or supporting Texas. I'm not. ~Sue~ ![]() |

Well the constant rain causes many people who move here to leave after a winter or two. It helps to keep the Californians where they belong. |

Some of my family lives in southern Oregon, and mom says it rains there a lot, too. I suffer from chronic depression and I'm not sure I could deal with so much rain. ~Sue~ ![]() |

Having lived in California and Oklahoma, I would pick the State of Denial. ![]() ![]() |

I have lived in Florida, Georgia and Virginia. I still live in Florida by choice. Bob DeWoody My motto: Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow as it may not be required. This no longer applies in light of current events. |

Yes, and thank goodness there is just a little sprinkle in that image as well. I remember in the 'old days' when we got real snow. One year we got so much snow that it didn't all melt until three years later! ![]() edit: Why I was four years old before I found out about summer... ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I understand that while Seattle gets a lot of rain, it doesn't have much snow, and the temperature range is less extreme than Chicago (where I've lived all my life). If that's too much rain for me, I'll try Portland. My next choice after that would come somewhere in the greater SF Bay area (but not too close -- not a fan of fog). Maybe upriver toward Sacramento. I definitely do not want to live anywhere warmer than Chicago, nor much colder either. Chicago has a major problem with illegal guns. That is, guns owned by people who are not registered to own them, and who probably could not get a Firearm Owner's Identification card (which I have), let alone a concealed carry permit (which I don't), due to having a criminal record. Any further explanation than that will get us into Politics. (I have an 1890s-vintage 5-shot revolver (similar to Indiana Jones', but with a shorter barrel) hidden away in my house, but I have no ammo for it. I would not trust it even with the ammo of its day, let alone with the more powerful modern type. I occasionally think about getting a modern automatic, but I don't really have a reason to.) [edit] (A friend once took me to a range to try his 9mm Ruger and his 22 rifle. I wasn't bad. Then he took me out to try his shotgun, which I didn't enjoy at all.) I really don't understand all the palaver over rain. The thing about the pacific northwest rain is that it's nearly all year long. Seattle will get over 150 days of rain a year and 266 days are cloudy. It gets depressing. Yes snow is more work, but it comes and goes. You get more than 58 sunny days a year. One exception about the snow coming and going. Montana. I comes and just wears out from blowing back and forth. ![]() |
