Good evening,

I've noticed over the past few weeks that the number of GPU tasks has fallen, to the point where I've now had three days without any GPU work units. Is there a problem with the creation of tasks at the moment for GPUs?

In my Event log, the errors I am seeing are:

"No tasks are available for SETI@home v7"
"No tasks are available for AstroPulse v7"
"No tasks are available to SETI@home v8".

I'm running Ubuntu Linux with three GPUS;

2 x Nvidia 640
1 x Nvidia 460

I haven't installed any applications (e.g. lunatics) I'm just using stock BOINC with the apps that are automatically installed by the client.

I'd also like to add I've had no problem with CPU WUs - these are still crunching away as I speak.

regards

-Andrew

Work is work is work, there are no specific tasks for CPU and GPU.
But... there is no default GPU application yet for Linux for Multibeam, only one for Astropulse, and those aren't split as much. Only when new tapes are in, and even then not if they've been done already before.

So that's the problem why you don't get GPU tasks.

Many thanks for the response. I didn't realise that the work units were the same for CPU and GPU. I always assumed that they had been compiled differently (CUDA vs X86 architectures). I suppose it makes more sense having the applications different but the work the same.

Ah well. I guess in the meantime I'll put the GPUs to use for another project until the SETI GPU apps are available.

No, the work is split on the server and only when it is sent out is it decided if it goes out to CPU or GPU. Depends on what your BOINC asks for.

The GPU science application is compiled to do the work either through CUDA or OpenCL, that's not a task of the tasks. And essentially it's the same application as that's used on the CPU.

As for a Multibeam application for the GPU for Linux, one is being tested, but it has to have the same outcome as other GPU applications and CPU applications and that seems to be a problem. So it's still in testing.

You ought to be able to beta-test it at Seti Beta, if you're interested.
If so, add Seti Beta as a project, using the https://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/beta/ URL. (Don't use the http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/beta/ URL as that can confuse BOINC because it is essentially the same address as Seti Main uses).
If you just want to browse there, check out the SAH v8 on Linux & Nvidia OpenCL thread.

Good evening all,

Has there been any news or updates on the status of Linux Nvidia GPU applications for Seti@Home yet? I've been crunching Asteroids@Home in the meantime, but am looking to come back properly as soon as GPU WUs are available again...

regards
