I'm watching a documentary about the war of 1812. I have to admit I didn't know it was the U.S. who declared war on Great Britain. I guess I slept through that part of history class in school. Anyway, it's very interesting. The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

One man's vision that changed a country There were more canal pioneers from Britain that also changed my country:) "Sweden's Blue Ribbon" Much of the expertise and equipment had to be acquired from abroad, notably from Britain, whose canal system was the most advanced in the world at that time. The Scottish civil engineer Thomas Telford developed the initial plans for the canal and travelled to Sweden in 1810 to oversee some of the early work on the route. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G%C3%B6ta_Canal |

Amazing that in this day & age, there are still researchers looking for stories like this. SOE Specialist Also what I find amazing in this article is a story about "The Limping Lady" Virginia Hall an American & never got caught - Amazing as she only had one leg! |

Today is the 50th anniversary of Aberfan Disaster when 116 children and 28 adults were killed when coal spoil tip collapsed into a school and houses. One of the most difficult days of my life. I was in the Army, which was a the final big Military exercise of the Year. As a 20 year old Corporal was the senior person of a small detachment on duty when I received a 'No Duff' msg informing me of the disaster and one of our operators was from Aberfan. I was to give him the news. With all due credit to the Army, within 2 hours he had been picked up and was on the his way to Dusseldorf airport and the first available plane back Home. No Duff - An incident that is not a drill or training exercise; an emergency. |

Nobody else responded, so I shall. I fear that as the saying goes, 'I complain too much.' There are many more that have experienced worse woes than myself. That given, I have to take my own worries in the context in which they are presented, and so I cry in the face of things that others would consider quite trivial. Best to you and yours, WK.
