Possible Cougar Sighting In Chicago’s Northwest Suburbs

A big cat warning has been issued in a northwest suburban community following a probable cougar sighting.

Between the nature in Streamwood and suburban life, there are concerns about the wildlife. The neighborhood has been put on alert there could be a cougar sighting in the area.

... The homeowner contacted the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and was told it was a “probable cougar sighting,” adding there have been several within five to ten miles of the community.

It's a cat thing. I see that now. Although I do have a version that's lapping over the sides of a small saucepan at the moment, rather than a box

Uli is having trouble posting pictures so has asked me to post them for her.

In Cats and Grief
We lost Cuddles on Wednesday. She passed at 6 1/2 mos on her first unintended walk about. Since Monkey, her sister needed a playmate. After finding out the adoption fee was only was $25 at the local shelter, I decided too visit. There was only one tricolor tabby, I told it, you got a new home.
One the clerk stated the paperwork, he asked, if I realized it only had three legs. No problem was the answer. Then I found out Lucky was a little boy.
I wasn't sure how Homeless would fell, but he had no problems.
Having a disability doesn't slow him down one bit. As of Sunday he is freely roaming the house, getting up on the kitty counter and using the big litter box on the wash machine.
My house was already set up with assists for an elderly cat. I found that amazing, since the amputation only happened on 7/26.

Not good news... :(
Warning: Some details in the article are pretty gruesome.

Serial cat killer has mutilated more than a dozen cats, authorities say
Authorities in Washington state suspect a single individual is behind a string of brutal cat killings that have left at least 13 animals dead.

The 13th cat was found dead on Thursday in Thurston County, near Olympia, Wash. Most of the cats have been found in public places and did not appear to have been killed by wild animals.

Hope they find the bad person(s) soon.

Owl’s Unusually Close Friendship With A Cat Has Animal Researchers Scratching Their Heads
With their swiveling heads, razor-sharp talons, fantastic eyesight, and precise hearing, owls are some of the most skilled predators in the animal kingdom. For most critters, getting eyeballed by a hungry owl means there’s a good chance they end in an owl pellet. No one had to tell Spanish falconer Jordi Amenós Basora that.

As a nature lover and bird aficionado, Jordi regularly brought his pet owl into the woods for hunting and flight practice. One day, however, another animal interrupted their session—and it made him very, very nervous…

On behalf of Candorchasma, I'm posting this:

My Space.com newsletter had this item that I thought might be nice for Cats II.

Would ya mind posting it?

It seems appropriate that we Setizens should help out the little buggers.

Kitten Stuck In Sewer Pipe For An Entire Day Gets Rescued By Hero Plumbers
(Uptown Neighborhood - Chicago) — A kitten was rescued from a sewer pipe just in the nick of time thanks to a dedicated condo board and a group of plumbers.

The young kitten was stuck in the pipe for at least 10-½ hours Wednesday. He was saved only thanks to quick-thinking residents who heard its cries for help and called J. Blanton Plumbing, which sent workers over to break into the building’s pipes and save the cat.

“It was pretty special, pretty interesting in the life of a plumber,” said Jordan Blanton, one of the rescuers.

The kitten had been stuck in the sewer pipe of a condo building ... since at least 7 a.m., when residents sipping coffee on the roof first heard its meows for help, Blanton said.

... Just after the rescue, it started to rain in Chicago — something that could have flooded the pipe and killed the kitten if not for the rescuers.

THE CAT NAPPER: Retired teacher's work with special needs cats goes viral
A Wisconsin man is gaining national attention after a Facebook post about his work with felines at a sanctuary went viral this week.

Safe Haven pet sanctuary may be a shelter, but the felines who live there aren't orphans.

"I adopted all these cats here," Terry Lauerman, a volunteer cat brusher, said.
