They almost became Darwin Awards nominees!
Cheetahs chase tourists at Dutch safari park after family gets out of car to snap pictures

A French family of three managed to escape a coalition of hungry cheetahs unscathed after they exited their vehicle to snap pictures of the wild animals — and the heart-stopping moment was caught on tape.

At first, the three cheetahs appear calm, lounging on a patch of grass at Safari Park Beekse Bergen, in the Netherlands, as the family parks their car a few feet away. A man exits the car and begins to take pictures of the cats. Moments later, a woman also gets out of the vehicle to put some items in the trunk, with a small child getting out behind her.

... A park spokesman told the station visitors are instructed never to leave their vehicles and warned about the dangers of interacting with wild animals.

"We inform visitors about the risks in several languages throughout the park," the spokesman told NOS.

Especially if you have kitties that go outdoors, you should be aware of this.
Bobcat Fever, mostly spread by ticks.

Aside from the loss of a human life, another tragedy is that they killed the cougar.
It is humans invading and destroying their habitat, not the other way around.
And at times like this, the natural instinct of the cougar is to defend what little territory they have left.

No, that cougar was hunting and classed the cyclists the same as deer.

Domestic cats are dying of Bobcat Fever, veterinarians warn. So what is it?
Veterinarians in states such as Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Tennessee are warning pet owners this spring of a deadly parasite that's killing cats.

Its scientific name is Cytauxzoon felis, but it's commonly referred to as Bobcat Fever.

It's called that because bobcats (as well as mountain lions) are said to be natural carriers of the parasite, according to a 2012 article from the University of Missouri. The disease spreads through tick bites, and it mainly affects domestic cats that spend most of their time outside, though it can also infect tigers, the report said.

Leah Cohn, a small-animal disease expert with the University of Missouri, once called it the "Ebola virus for cats," because it can kill cats in a matter of days.

A CATASTROPHE: THE GOVERNMENT IS ABUSING KITTENS AT TAXPAYERS’ EXPENSE
... The latest kitten is out of the bag following yet another an investigation by taxpayer watchdog group White Coat Waste Project, which exposed the deadly kitten experiments the agency has been secretly funding with hard-earned tax dollars and performing at their laboratory-turned-slaughterhouse in Maryland for nearly half a century.

Since at least 1970, the USDA has been breeding 100 kittens per year, feeding them Toxoplasma-infected raw meat at just two months old and collecting their feces for two-to-three weeks to harvest the parasite used in other experiments. ...

When a litter of 1-day-old kittens was found frozen solid, their foster mom was determined to save their lives. But one of the babies needed more help than the rest. Today on Little But Fierce, watch how Bagel persevered — and got so strong and playful that she was ready for a family of her own in no time

Thanks to these firefighters, cat escapes burning house in Fort Worth
A Fort Worth firefighter walked out of a burning home with a cat snuggled in his arms Thursday.

The home’s occupants were away at the time the fire started, said Kyle Clay, Fort Worth Fire Department spokesman.

Firefighters were alerted to the blaze about 2 p.m. at a house in the 2700 block of Briscoe Drive when smoke was reported coming from the house, Clay said.

Firefighters went in to search the house for residents and a dog ran out, Clay said. During the search a firefighter located a cat and carried him outside, awake and alert, Clay said.

Neighbors were taking care of the animals until the return of the home’s occupants, Clay said. Firefighters said they believe the fire was started by a lightning strike, according to Clay.

Colorado man spots 4 mountain lions lurking on porch: 'It blew my mind'
A Colorado man had a group of unexpected visitors early Wednesday morning: four mountain lions, all hanging around on his back porch.

Andy Davis was up early for a morning run when he saw the lions, believed to be a mother and her three cubs. Shocked, Davis slowly reached for his cell phone to snap a few pictures and capture video of the felines.

“I was just amazed. My whole life I’ve been waiting to see cats,” Davis, of Conifer, told FOX31. "[I’ve] never seen a mountain lion the whole time I’ve lived up here.”
