Good day, Anyone using the 280x cards. Can anyone tell me if they worth anything? Thank you |

Yes! Mine are the 7990 (2 on the same card) and D700's in my Mac, but they are all 32 compute unit (2048 stream processors) Tahiti based cards. They do exceptionally well on Astropules units, as in if we ever had a continuous stream of them you'd see a RAC in excess of 50,000 per card. You get less bang for your buck with multibeam because of the credit system, but with v. 7, I'd routinely get over 25k per card. Still figuring out what the cards can do with v.8 of multibeam. It's across the board more complex and thus grants less RAC. Both my duel GPU machines are closing in on 40k RAC at the moment. I figure they will settle in between 45-55k before its all said and done. So yes, defiantly worth crunching with... Chris |

My Rig; AMD FX-8350 at 4100mhz, water cooled 16gigs of G-Skill Ripjaws RAM at 1600mhz 2-Powercolor R9 280Xs 1030/1500mhz Gigabyte GA970-UD3 MOBO Samsung EVO 850 SSD EVGA Supernova P2 1200W PSU I couldn't be happier with the R9 280Xs, especially considering the price. well under $200 apiece, used and open box. |

I've been crunching on a HIS 280X 24/7 for well over a year now and have been pleased with the results. RAC (paired with an i7 4790) is around 27,000. The switch from MB v7 to v8 didn't seem to make much difference. I'm also using the HD5 app downloaded from Mike's World. |

Good day, From your current list of machines it looks like you are primary a Nvidia person. So if you don't want to use some R9 280x's I can offer you two turnips for them but no more. :P Otherwise using them will not really be that much different depending on how deep you want to go with application tuning parameters. Also if there are any other projects besides SETI@home you were thinking about running that require Dual Precision GPUs the R9 280x is one of the top cards for that. Being spec'd for 870-1024 GFLOPS in DP a project like Milkyway@home might be a good backup project to have. I have 2x 280x sitting away in a box that I really want to get using. I will try to setup an system and see how it goes. |

I got these puppies going and am really happy with the results. I would have expected run times under 10 min. But if you are running more than 1 task per GPU 14-15 min is probably pretty much where they should be. I got these puppies going and am really happy with the results. Is it bad to run more then one task on these GPUs. When I checked the load the GPUs were sitting at 70%, thats why I made them work on multiples. |

I got these puppies going and am really happy with the results. Running more than one task is only a problem if it causes less work to get done, or nothing is gained. My HD6870's were happy to run two tasks at once. They just ran them twice as slow and consumed more power in the process. So only a higher electric bill for the exact same amount of work done. If, when you were only running single takes, normal AR tasks were taking less than 8 min you might be in the same position I was with my 6870's. Depending on the machine I run 2-3 wu's per device without problem. The current app on main seems to prefer 2, but with the new SoG app that's in beta, I've been able to run 3 and get a little more RAC out of the machine, but it's pretty close. At a minimum I'd go with 2 though... You can take a look at my machines. I've got one with a 7990 (two 280x's on a single board) and my Mac that has D700's which are basically underclocked 280X's. The Mac is running really well witht the SoG app (over 50k RAC) but the 7990 needs some tweaking still as it is not running wu's in general as well as it should (needs a driver purge and reinstall) but it is still pulling in around 40k RAC.
