Is it possible to say, when there will be enough work available again for Nvidia GPUs? The last weeks there were only a few WUs to crunch and at the moment only V8-WUs are available - but it seems to me, that there is no (Cuda) App ready now? |

We're working on it, and getting closer - but no, not yet. Keep an eye on this message board. |

Richard beat me to it (as ever). Just now there are Nvidia GPU apps under test on Beta - I've just snagged a few tasks and my pair of GTX980s having a feast :-) Results of testing will no doubt tell those that are in charge of release how near to release the current crop of Beta-test apps are. Joined Beta yesterday and Bonic installed NVIDIA apps. They seem to be running ok. To get the latest and greatest app do I need to do anything or will they install automatically? I am running as installed, no command line, app_info, or other changes. Should I be trying something? If so, I need directions, Thanks Herb |

That's all... you'll see posts for manually installed update apps but you can just wait for the automatic updates through BOINC when the official betas are released. I am doing that and running absolutely stock is no app_info.xml etc. It's recommended to read through the News thread to know the caveats (any important updates will also appear in your BOINC client), check your Tasks to see if there are excessive Invalids/Errors/Inconclusives and post if you find anything wrong that isn't covered. |

Within Beta it is considered "bad form" to install "the latest" apps. This is because the application required for a particular test is linked somehoworother to the task or tasks delivered. Remember Beta is a test environment, and sometimes a particular set of tasks might need to be processed by an older version, or may only contain a part data-set compared to a "normal" task. Within Beta it is considered "bad form" to install "the latest" apps. It depends if he has permission from someone who knows what he is doing. If Raistmer or Jason says he can use it its fine. The tasks can be processed with each compatible app in principle. With each crime and every kindness we birth our future. |

Within Beta it is considered "bad form" to install "the latest" apps. Oops, I've just announced one - well, four, actually. This is because the application required for a particular test is linked somehoworother to the task or tasks delivered. Remember Beta is a test environment, and sometimes a particular set of tasks might need to be processed by an older version, or may only contain a part data-set compared to a "normal" task. There isn't actually a prohibition per se, but it is requested that you keep your wits about you, read what is written, and keep coming back to read what new has been written. For example, the first set of Android apps tested at Beta turned out not to work. If you have an Android task labelled version 8.00, issued before 5 January, you are advised to abort it. They're testing v8.01 for Android now, and they would like you to test that instead. Similarly, all the Windows optimised applications (for CPU, and all GPU types) have been refreshed in the last four hours. For those who rely on server downloads, they will be updated next time Eric can bear to face the contents of his inbox. For those who jumped gun gun and installed manually - well, you'll just have to jump the gun again. |

Hey Richard, that was your 10,000th post, congratulations! I'd noticed that milestone was coming up, and wondered if I could work it to coincide with the new Installer release announcement. But you lot kept asking so many questions that I overshot without even realising :P ! Well, thanks for noticing. Here's to the next 10,000. |

Hello, Please tell me - if I have an "app-info.xml" without GPU-entry and NVIDA GPU - I get the GPU version of Seti8 automatically when it is available? Or do I have the "app-info.xml" supplement with the GPU-entry? Thankyou for support! Klaus |

When the GPU v8 apps are released you will have to edit your app_info.xml file so it points toe the correct apps. You will also have to download these apps. When the GPU apps Richard ma have produced the next version of the installer, but that is not a certainty. Keep an eye on the v8 pinned thread at the top of Number Crunching for the latest and most accurate news.
