The Attorney General of New York took action today to dissolve the National Rifle Association, following an 18-month investigation that found evidence the powerful gun rights group is "fraught with fraud and abuse."

Attorney General Letitia James claims in a lawsuit filed Thursday that she found financial misconduct in the millions of dollars, and that it contributed to a loss of more than $64 million over a three year period.

The suit alleges that top NRA executives misused charitable funds for personal gain, awarded contracts to friends and family members, and provided contracts to former employees to ensure loyalty.

Seeking to dissolve the NRA is the most aggressive sanction James could have sought against the not-for-profit organization, which James has jurisdiction over because it is registered in New York. James has a wide range of authorities relating to nonprofits in the state, including the authority to force organizations to cease operations or dissolve. The NRA is all but certain to contest it.

Ouch. That's giving the hornet's nest a mighty poke with a very big stick indeed. Unless somebody backs down (which seems unlikely), that one is going to run and run. And run. Supreme court, anyone?

To me the National Rifle Association is nothing but a criminal and terrorist group.

The U.S. will never be great while they're around trying to keep the wild west alive.

How can you say that. when all the NRA leader has done is sought a new place to live;
After a mass shooting at a high school in Parkland, Fla., LaPierre told close associates he was worried about how easily he could be targeted and needed a more secure place to live and sought to buy a $6 million, 10,000-square-foot French-style country estate in Westlake, Tex.

and needed time off to reduce the stress so,
LaPierre billed the NRA more than $500,000 for private charter flights he and his family took to visit the Bahamas eight times over three years.

All reasonable actions for the leader of a political criminal lobby group, wouldn't you agree;-)

Well, $64 million in embezzlement is a big crime, so it needs a big stick. Oh, wait. It wasn't embezzled because the people taking it could and did vote to give it out. Now was that on his W-2 or a 1099-MISC? Would that be tax fraud? Or would that be enriching an individual with a not-for-profit, which would be tax fraud of a different kind? In any case $64 million is big enough to be a felony charge. Now how fast will the jury return its verdict?

Guns came to OSHAWA, Ontario

Toronto and surrounding areas are awash in mostly illegal firearms run over the thinly guarded border, mostly by gangs. We're averaging about a gang shooting per day, and the politicians who can do something about it don't seem to care, so we'll be hitting Chicago numbers eventually.

I think that would be all illegal firearms. I doubt a Canuck can walk into a USA gun store and toss down his ID and make a purchase. So it is a straw purchase, a felony on this side of the border. Then crossing the border it is Canadian felony smuggling. There might be a couple of legal guns up there but not an "awash" amount.
You will pass Chicago and get to Mexican cartel numbers soon enough.
