Message 1920998 - Posted: 25 Feb 2018, 3:19:51 UTC - in response to Message 1920919.

Makes very much sense to me.
Many of the mass shootings in high schools are done by students or recent ex-students.
Raising the age to 21 will hopefully make it so that they might have coming to terms with their high school experiences.
But that probing mental health more than it's done now will probably wont doing nothing.

And if there are guns in the home that has people 21 or older?

Sigh...
In order to change something you have to start somewhere.

Hi moomin...
If the age restriction is just a "start". What does the 'end' look like.

There are already restrictions in the 2'nd amendment so what are you afraid of?
It's not about that it would come some "end" that I suppose means a ban of ALL weapons and the right of self-defense.
But it's obvious that many american people doesn't understand what the "right to bear arms" means.
Most of them are young americans.

Come to think of another trick to perhaps lower the usage of lethal weapons in the US.
The Wallet Trick.
Use the taxation weapon just as it used with alcohol and tobacco.
No problem with constitutional rights.
I'm sure that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) can handle this.
I guess there is already a reason to why ATF handle Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives together:)

Taxation may not solve our constitutional and cultural problems regarding guns.

Of course not.
And the US has no constitutional or cultural problems.
Only attitudes by some americans, mostly young americans, that now have easy access to cheap lethal weapons.
You want to buy weapons like AR-15 , Ruger-14 and AK-47 cheaper than dirt then here you are.
https://www.cheaperthandirt.com/category/firearms/rifles.do
http://www.thenewstribune.com/latest-news/article201962974.html
If you want these weapons equipped with 100 round magazines and bumb stocks you are not looking for a weapon for self-defense or to hunt with!
And semi-automic weapons are not built for civilian self-defense in the first place,
In hunting though with a 5 round magazine that type of weapon is acceptable. If you need more rounds to shoot game in a magazine you should be disqualifed to hunt.
In a shooting range supervised by some managers it's of course possible to choose whatever type of weapon you like.

Sad but true that the only chance for the grand old usa, or for the world at large, is cohort replacement.
Old Farts with all the Power, and little Intelligence, making decisions way past their best before date.
The best thing to happen, for the Global Populace, is an early death to old fogies.
Not clyde, je, myself, or most posters will be missed in the least.
Logans Run. Instead of 30 make it 70. Job done. Not only make the world better, but these boards would be interesting :-)

It was a humourous reply :-) But as you mentioned 40 years, go back 50/60 years. The people of that era would think that that those who envisaged todays weaponary, technology would classify those as dreamers or fantasy writers, so whose is to say that something like that won't exist in the future with the expanding world population?

Something to think about don't you think?

Edited for spelling & grammar.

How about 100 years ago?

Thompson submachine gun. Invented in 1918. Uses .45ACP ammo. Pictured with a 100-round drum magazine. Rate-of-fire (depending on exact variation) 600 to 800 rounds per minute.

2 Thompsons were used as the primary weapons in the St. Valentines Day Massacre (Feb. 14, 1929)

Don't blame me, I voted for Johnson(L) in 2016.

Truth is dangerous... especially when it challenges those in power.

Mainly in the hands of law enforcement, military & gangsters. Did any students use it in school massacres?

Wondering if that had something to do with the restrictions on ownership of fully automatic weapons ....

Ending the Gun show loophole, Brady law loophole, private sale exemption would help to stop people buying firearms without any background checks to start with.

Cheers.

NRA: What changed? Some good points:

The NRA’s opposition to gun control, however, is only a few decades , according to Adam Winkler author of the book Gunfight: The Battle Over the Right to Bear Arms in America. “Historically,” writes Winkler, “the leadership of the NRA was more open-minded about gun control than someone familiar with the modern NRA might imagine.”
Not only did the NRA support gun control for much of the 20th century, its leadership in fact lobbied for and co-authored gun control legislation.

Not only was the legislation unanimously upheld by the Supreme Court in 1939, but Karl T. Frederick, the president of the NRA, testified before Congress stating, “I have never believed in the general practice of carrying weapons. I do not believe in the general promiscuous toting of guns. I think it should be sharply restricted and only under licenses.”

What changed, wedge politics in the name of winning rather that the common good.
As I see it the consensus of this forum is that the right to semiautomatic weapons is more important than reducing mass killings.

The idiots are are engaging in minutia rather than being pragmatic. The common denominator is semiautomatic weapons with large magazines.

Many continue to place emphasis on the constitution especially the 2nd amendment & what is required to change (amend) it. That argument begs a question:
Whatever happened to the constittution in this case?
Where is the amendment to allow that to occur?

If you really want a strange one, why can't I carry a machine gun onto an airplane?
