One parent learns the cost of not looking after their guns or their children:

Also there is an attempt to blame others for their own lax attitude - a rather sick attempt at a defence.

BURNSVILLE, Minn. (AP) — Two police officers and a first responder were shot and killed early Sunday and a third officer was injured at a suburban Minneapolis home in an exchange of gunfire while responding to a call involving an armed man who had barricaded himself inside with family, including seven children. The suspect in the shooting also died, officials said.

Isn't that murder with intent?

That's up to the Grand Jury to decide:
The homeowner, who was “fearing for his safety,” fired off “several” rounds toward the suspect because he thought his counterpart was reaching for a firearm, Gonzalez said.

The other individual who was with the deceased man was not hit by gunfire and is not facing any charges.

“The homeowner cooperated with investigators and provided a detailed statement about the incident,” Gonzalez said, noting the case will be handed over to a grand jury.

“Once the investigation is complete, the case will be turned over to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office for presentation to a grand jury,” the top cop said.

Well, having a gun to protect you doesn't work, indeed it can hurt you:

It'll be interesting to see why this privileged U.S. gun nut thinks that she's innocent.

A colourful US traveller will stand trial over allegations she tried to smuggle a 24-karat gold firearm into Australia in her hand luggage.

Liliana Goodson was arrested at Sydney Airport on the afternoon of April 23 last year after Australian Border Force allegedly found a golden weapon hidden in her hand luggage.

Police allege an X-ray machine at the busy airport detected the Colt 45-style pistol in her bag after she flew into Sydney from Los Angeles.

The 24-karat gold gun is valued at more than $2000 and was not loaded when it was seized by the authorities.

ABF officials claim Ms Goodson does not have a permit to import or carry the unregistered gun in Australia.

On Tuesday, Sydney Downing Centre Local Court heard the 29-year-old will fight the allegations in a hearing after she pleaded not guilty to intentionally importing prohibited goods without approval.

The court was told the two-day hearing will take place in August, more than a year after Ms Goodson was arrested while entering the country.........

How could this woman enter the plane in Los Angeles carrying this gun?

Obviously lax security by TSA screening, if the article is correct "... in her hand luggage".

TSA website says there is a proper way to pack, declare and travel with a firearm
Passengers are permitted to travel with firearms in checked baggage if they are properly packaged and declared at their airline ticket counter. Firearms must be unloaded, packed in a hard-sided locked case, and packed separately from ammunition. Then the locked case should be taken to the airline check-in counter to be declared.

It is just possible that the X-Ray operator sneezed just as her bag was on the screen.

Last year, TSA officers found ... 81 guns found on passengers at LAX

Much more likely she declared the gun which is legal in USA, they informed Sydney who arrested her as it now was criminal on landing.

I note it says "hand luggage" not "carry on luggage" Now I don't know if that is a difference in English or just click bait.

Not really, different airports, airlines, and even staff use the two terms interchangeably; even for or on the same flight.
