Now there's a thought.

Democrats Introduce Bill Taxing Semiautomatic Firearms at 1000%: Report.

Well that would move semi-automatics out of the pockets of many - a quick google suggests that one can get an AR-15 for about $400, which is "fairly affordable", but add 1000% tax and that jumps to $4400, or the price of a used (but not trashed) pickup....

Periodic explosions still could be heard after the initial incident.

UK gun lobby accused of helping to ‘skew’ consultation on tightening laws
wrote:
British Association for Shooting and Conservation and Countryside Alliance advising supporters how to answer consultation launched after Plymouth mass killings

The powerful UK gun lobby has been accused of mobilising tens of thousands of shooting enthusiasts to “skew” a government consultation on tightening firearms laws launched after the Plymouth mass killings in 2021.

Gun control campaigners, victims of crime involving weapons and families of people killed in shootings have expressed concern that the government will use the results of the consultation as an excuse to not make extensive changes to firearms laws despite widespread calls for fundamental reform after the Plymouth tragedy.

The British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC) and the Countryside Alliance have made it easy for members and supporters to access the consultation from its websites – and advised them on how to reply to each of the 20 yes/no questions posed.

BASC told the Guardian there had been almost 80,000 click-throughs from its site to the consultation, which ends next week, while the Countryside Alliance said “many” of its 100,000 members and supporters had taken part.

The groups are encouraging members to reject many of the proposals...

... “The gun lobby are arguing for no changes to Britain’s broken gun laws, meaning they are deliberately failing to learn the lessons from the Plymouth shooting.

“We need ordinary people who want changes to gun laws to make a stand and send in their views to the Home Office consultation. If we don’t learn the lessons of the tragedy in Keyham, we will be doomed to repeat them.”...

The madness of it all and the sadness as well.

‘Not acceptable’: X-ray reveals biggest killer of kids in the US.

.....Of course, the cause of death was a firearm: an analysis of CDC data, published last week in the American Academy of Pediatrics journal, found that guns had once again killed a record number of children in 2021, exceeding the peak registered in the first year of the pandemic.

Researchers had expected to see a decrease in gun-related deaths because of Covid-induced lockdowns. Those projections, however, were not realised.

Per the report, 4752 children and adolescents (from newborn to age 19) died from a firearm injury that year – an increase of almost 42 per cent from 2018. Two-thirds of the deaths were homicides, almost 30 per cent were suicides, and 3.5 per cent resulted from “unintentional injury”....

It's not even safe to report on the crimes in Chicago,,,
TV news crew robbed while reporting on Chicago robbery sprees; armed men targeted at least 30 people in about 12 hours
The armed robbery problem has become so bad in Chicago that armed robbers this morning robbed a TV news crew doing a story about an armed robbery in West Town.

That unbelievable development came as at least 30 people were robbed or carjacked during sprees between Sunday afternoon and Monday morning.

And, no, Chicago police have not announced any arrests in connection with the latest crime waves.

A reporter and photojournalist were preparing to do a live shot about the latest robbery spree when a holdup crew rolled up to them in the 1200 block of North Milwaukee shortly before 5 a.m.

Without identifying the victims as a news crew, a Chicago police spokesperson confirmed that a 28-year-old man and a 42-year-old man were outside in the 1200 block of North Milwaukee when a black SUV and a gray sedan pulled up around 4:53 a.m. Three men got out of the vehicles wearing ski masks and displaying guns.

They took the victims’ personal belongings, went into their work vehicle, and stole the station’s camera, a source familiar with the crime confirmed, adding that the victims were working for Univision.
