Message 2109780 - Posted: 7 Nov 2022, 10:33:06 UTC - in response to Message 2109733.

Very valid point....
A couple of observations:
The USA has a very high level of gun ownership, and in many states very lax gun laws. And this appears to be associated with very high levels of gun crime.
Meanwhile several thousand miles away Switzerland has a very high level of gun ownership, and it gun ownership laws vary from Canton to Canton. But Switzerland has a much, much, much lower level of gun crime.

This brings a question to my mind - Why?
Given the USA has about twice as many guns (per head of population) as Switzerland one might reasonably expect there to be twice as many gun crimes in the USA, but the ratio is actually about 6:1. I don't think this can be put down solely to gun laws, but perhaps to a comparison of the "communal attitudes" of the two populations. Others may point to the levels of formal training, or the way guns are registered, or the way guns are kept, or to quite a number of other factors - I'm sure each of us can come up with our own lists.

Talk about being a brain dead moron.

Ohio man fatally shoots neighbor ‘because he thought he was a Democrat’.

Then there's those subways.

Man dies after being shot 11 times on subway as suspect is still on the run.

But this murdering disease will continue in the land of the gun.

And this judge doesn't help the situation.

Federal judge in Texas rules that disarming those under protective orders violates Second Amendment.

The 2nd actually became obsolete when the U.S. created its own standing army and the states created police forces.

CNN - At least five people were killed and 18 others injured in a mass shooting at a gay nightclub on Saturday in Colorado Springs, Colorado, according to police.

I can only guess why...
And there's the moronic hypocrites that stir them up.

Lauren Boebert condemned for response to Colorado Springs shooting.

A conservative Colorado congresswoman faced blowback for her statement of concern in response to the shooting at a gay nightclub in the state when Twitter users accused her of trafficking in the same hate that has been blamed for the attack.

Lauren Boebert tweeted after a shooting overnight at Club Q in Colorado Springs that “the news out of Colorado Springs is absolutely awful. This morning the victims & their families are in my prayers.

She added, “[t]his lawless violence needs to end and end quickly”.

But her remarks fell on deaf ears; Twitter users quickly noted that Ms Boebert was deeply entrenched in the resurgence of right-wing hate against the LGBT community. The freshman congresswoman, who holds a thin lead in a reelection bid headed for a recount, has more than once tweeted approvingly about the right-wing hate account LibsOfTikTok, which shines a spotlight on private citizens and businesses that are seen as members of or allied with the gay community; teachers and drag performers who interact with children are among the owner’s favourite targets. Those targeted by the account are subjected to relentless abuse from thousands of followers; in one recent high-profile case, the Boston Children’s Hospital received bomb threats after it was maligned by the account...
Marjorie Taylor Greene tops new list of most hateful tweets

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) tops a new list of the most hateful tweets in the wake of Florida’s Don’t Say Gay law, according to a just-released study by the Human Rights Campaign.

Greene came in number one on a top ten list that includes two other top government officials: Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) and press secretary to Republican Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida, Christina Pushaw.

LibsofTikTok scowl Chaya Raichik placed fourth on the list.

Tweets from the top ten posters were viewed an estimated 48 million times and were “responsible for driving” the “grooming” narrative, researchers found....

Those who claim to be religious only preach hate of any difference, for profit.
(Matthew 7:12): Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ ” (Matthew 22:37-39, ESV)

The preachers are the minions of Satan.
They know it as they hate themselves and would destroy themselves.

It is our First amendment and the inability to realize it was not intended to shield incitement to riot by the preaching of hate.

Well it turns out that the Colorado Springs Suspect's Grandfather Is (a MAGA RINO) Politician Who Compared Jan. 6 to Revolutionary War while a Mother, Three Children Gunned Down After Protective Order Denied.

BTW: The 1st reports on a lot of AR-15 style assault weapons shootings
, like with the Colorado job, report, "a suspect with a long rifle", which is not correct for a rifle with a barrel length of around 20" as that classifies it as a "short rifle" and is why the effective range of that weapon is just 600 metres while a proper "long rifle" will double that.

The stats here are so depressing. 'Heartbreak' as seven shot dead in US Walmart store

Gun violence in America
Firearms deaths are a fixture in American life.

There were 1.5 million of them between 1968 and 2017 - higher than the number of soldiers killed in every US conflict since the American War for Independence in 1775.

This year, almost 40,000 Americans have died from gun shots, according to Gun Violence Archive, more than 1,500 of which are children, including 290 under the age of 11.

In 2020, 45,000 people were killed by guns, more than any other year on record. The figure represents a 25% increase from five years prior, and a 43% increase from 2010.

edit]
Just looked at Washington Post and the New York Times pages, in any other country a mass shooting headline would be plastered across the top of the front page in min 72pt bold. On their web pages this Walmart killing is in the second section, over halfway down the page. With a heading about 14pt bold.

I was going to say earlier, but I didn't get it confirmed, but now it has.

The shooter was a Walmart manager.

If you won one of the big prizes on the lottery, you wouldn't have plenty. The security team you employ would insist, that you don't carry, because you would be a liability.
