Read your post again, the answer is there :-)Google MS St Louis. I re-read my post 2 more times and still do not see the relevance of comparing the MS St. Louis to my post. Unless... You're comparing it to my statement about the British derelict ships being used to house our POWs in such a deplorable manner. The Jewish refugees were NOT housed in such a manner so I see no relevance. You point to me where there is ANY relevance whatsoever. Siran CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? A person surely can't be that simple. Careful what you wish for. If you remove any simpletons you can be certain the replacement will be simpler. |

Okay this makes it clearer for you. Please note that there is no reference to anything British. Funny thing about Americans using reference to other countries past to make a point while forgetting their own.Read your post again, the answer is there :-)Google MS St Louis. Andersonville |

Funny thing about Americans using reference to other countries past to make a point while forgetting their own. As stated, obvious to any non-ist human. |

Dude, you are so hilarious! LOL! Did I say ANYTHING at all about our Civil War? NO! I said Revolutionary War where the British wanted to reign over the colonists that wanted to have their independence from GB. You should learn to read and comprehend what others post and not assume something they are not posting. So, yeah the U.S. is all BAD just as you say. So from now on, when you get into trouble that you cannot handle, DON'T COME CRYING TO US FOR HELP!!! And, before you continue calling the U.S. bad, look at your own history. THAT was the point I was trying to make. Look at how you treated the Scottish. We gained our independence from an over powering, over pompous, over bearing, over taxing bully. nufsed CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? "What a piece of junk!" - L. Well it's like this Dude, you mentioned how your pow's were treated by the British. Doesn't matter what war you meant. Better if you comprehend your musings befre actually posting. BTW, Ireland never mistreated the Scottish :-) As for your last comment so did we boy :-) |

Many thousand British citizens volunteered to fight for The North during the American Civil War. Got any evidence for that, because in my neck of the woods, where cotton is king, we supported the South. |

Get it right history professor. The comment was how the British treated pow's during the revolutionary war. If that is still in the minds of Yankees today, it seems that approximately 90 years later, they failed to take heed of that mistreatment hence Andersonville. So if one uses the past by stating the mistakes of other countries past, one must accept their own mistakes as well :-) You Yanks made some howlers when all is said & done. As the Irish Troubles has shown, one cannot use troops as police officers, so your continuing to militarise your own police forces will come back to bite your butts. As seen over the last decade at least, it's only going to get worse & the excuses given for incidents being seen will be feeble. |

Your "neck of the woods" is again incorrect. You fail to understand my "neck of the woods and cotton", thought you knew something about history. My neck of the woods is East Lancashire, and because of the Norths blockade over 70% of the cotton mills here had to be closed and thousands suffered hardship and starvation. And there were many calls for the Royal Navy to break the blockade. And if you do your research correctly you will find there were just about as many UK volunteers for the South. |

Your "neck of the woods" is again incorrect. You are incorrect. Nick is correct, it is just your "misunderstanding" of our culture & language, something which you oft remind us of about America :-) |

"Neck of the Woods" here is the equivalent of your "10-20" 10-4? |

What have old relations between Britain and the US with US gun problem today? Both the American Revolution War and the Civil War is the main reason why the 2'nd Amendment in the US Constitution exist. But I thought the relations between Britain and the USA was settled more than 100 years ago. Anyway. The British elite tended to support the Confederacy, but ordinary people tended to support the Union. I don't know the proportions but the vast majority of the about 50,000 Brits in the conflict fought on the Union side. Hmm. Scandinavian immigrants where involved in the US Civil War as well Extensive genealogical research can uncover only about 1,000 Scandinavian-Americans living in states that joined the Confederacy; among the Southern forces only 19 soldiers can be found who claimed Scandinavian descent. There were a great many more Scandinavians to be counted among the soldiers of the Union, from a far larger population. Nearly 55,000 of the American soldiers claimed to have been born in Scandinavia. http://www.civilwarhome.com/scandinavian.html. |

Why don't you believe that thousands of British Individuals volunteered to fight in the American Civil War? But I do. It's just you seem to think they only fought on one side. In all probability there were approx equal numbers on both sides. And just stop going on about us, on this side of the pond, not understanding the US and its 51 states. You haven't got the foggiest about the variations in even English variations, never mind UK regions. And you probably need another ten years before you will understand a majority of the variations in Europe. The variations aren't even Country to Country. |

I'll state it again, you have an incorrect view not only of our culture but language in general. Asides from knowing enough about my own country's history as well as a good knowledge of world history, I know more than enough about British history. Lancashire was the heart of its cotton industry."Neck of the Woods" here is the equivalent of your "10-20" 10-4? How you can twist comments about to suit yourself brings into serious question your statement that you were a university teacher. When you have been taken to task over a topic your fall back position has always been "back to subject". So what is happening here Clyde? Forgot your mantra already? |

And to learn and understan our languages over here. Lanky and Scouse comes to mind speaking of Lancashire. Well there perhaps not languages but can be difficult to understand. |
