It really doesn't matter, permit or no permit a terrorist will find a way to get the weapon of his choice. It is a sad day and I do feel sympathy towards the families of the victims. Nothing anyone can say will assuage their grief in this moment.

It is a bit surprising to me that this guy picked the location he did and not one of the big attractions like Disney World. probably because it would have been more difficult to sneak his weapons by security.

In one respect ISIS is winning this war by forcing even everyday events to beef up security and causing would be guests to consider staying safely at home due to fear of exposure.

An earlier report on the BBC did in fact state an assault weapon was used.
The only official statement on the weapon is that is was "a long gun" so the BBC is now presenting rumor as fact. I expect that from Faux and CNN because they are in a race for ratings, but the BBC?

It likely will be some form of semi-automatic long gun, when the ATF releases the information. But now they are likely at the purchase location, it was registered, going over the records, looking at security camera footage and interviewing the clerks. There is a lot of interviews to conduct and preferably before the press shoves a mic in someones face and asks inane questions.

Thanks. Have to agree, that's the problem with "breaking news" stories. As for the BBC, they are good, but not perfect.

That's probably true, and I'm not convinced stricter gun laws would prevent anyone who really wanted a gun to get one. There's plenty of guns out there. We're not getting rid of them any sooner than we're getting rid of nuclear weapons.

That's very true.
Remember Anders Breivik, the mass murderer from Norway?
He who killed more than 70 people in just a few hours.
He got his weapon and bombs from Poland if I remember right.
Norway, and the other Nordic countries, has more strict weapon laws than the US.
But it is more easy and cheaper to get a weapon illegal here.
And it's not only hand guns.
Assault rifles as well that you cannot get in a legal way.

Oh. I was wrong. Now there is a way to buy an assault rifle in a legal way if you go to Bratislava in Slovakia.
For 3800 SEK, $460, a Swedish reporter got a Romanian Kalashnikov AK-47.
He received a receipt, there is a two year warranty, and a few cartridges.
- Have a nice day, says the dealer when they leave the store.

What laws?

The one that was a total ban on a gun in any establishment like a bar that serves liquor. Seems everyone obeyed that gun law, except the ISIL pig.

Latest news is that he overpowered a police officer at the door who tried to stop him from getting into the club.

It has also been reported that this guy had been questioned by the FBI at least twice but under the current guidelines was let go.

Fla. mass shooting proves no policy in place can protect Americans when hate walks through the door with a loaded gun. The FBI, let this guy slip thru.

Glad you stayed home, Bob.

No security can ever protect. They shot how many Presidents? There will always be a soft target for them to attack.

If a suicidal crazy wants to kill humans they will find a way.

America needs crazy control.

The FBI, let this guy slip thru.

While it is easy to blame the Famous But Incompetent, the real blame belongs on Congress and SCOTUS who have given crazies more rights than the sane.

Crazies are given the right to be crazy. I suppose some dolt justice thinks that the Declaration of Independence "pursuit of happiness" is actually somewhere in the Constitution.

Until head shrinks can tell reliably tell the difference between the harmless crazy and the dangerous crazy, the right of the sane to "life and liberty" should trump the crazies right to "pursuit of happiness."

Now I await for Clyde's or MK's typical "Personal Freedoms" reply.

Cheers.

But they were right, The gun used in the Orlando shooting is becoming mass shooters’ weapon of choice

Report

In this day and age of computers, why should there be a wait? You pass the check or you don't. Or do you wish to enable waiting periods for abortion and the like? [remember the ways of SCOTUS]

Jail crazies and the problem goes away. In America, unlike any other place on earth, it is your right to be crazy. That needs to change PDQ.
