Not sure if I did something wrong, but I am not getting anymore GPU work since Seti 8.
Thank you

(Almost) only V8 tasks available at the moment but there are no official V8 GPU-apps yet.

Yeah, I'm at least 50k RAC down since V8 was introduced. About 17k because of a GPU only cruncher and a bunch other machines that have lunatics installed on them.

There is no such thing as a GPU unit, work can be sent to any suitable application.

I guess he means AP/V7 tasks. Looks like V7 started splitting, so those may soon be available to GPU-crunchers.

More likely he means MB/v8/GPU applications. I think I wrote an answer about that somewhere hereabouts. Too busy to look for it now.

Well it should be interesting but I got an AP 7.703 unit on my dual processor machine with no GPU and it says it will take 7 days 20 hours and 40 min. and 53 seconds to complete. Isn't that a little excessive??....grin

I would guess that this is about the first AstroPulse unit that PC has run. That being the case the estimate will be wildly pessimistic. The final run time is likely to be in the region of one to two days.

Thanks for the optimistic comment. I sure hope it runs faster than 7 days.
I have one AP on a quad that is running with the gpu and it says it will be done in 3:45:00, but it is only 50% done. With that kind of math it's hard to trust any of this stuff.....grin

I suspect it will take about 4.5 hours to run, not bad compared to 2 - 7 days.

BTW, is all that is available to run on gpu only AP's?

Just thought I would throw this out there, I just completed 2 V8 WU's with my CUDA GPU.
It's on my GT 730 machine. Is this a fluke or isn't this possible?

I think there is something wrong with the naming of these APs as the STDERR output shows: "Detected setiathome_enhanced_v7 task."

I am guessing that it is a V7 task that is somehow in the conversion to V8 is mislabeled.

You played around with your app_info.xml file?

This app can't calculate SETIv8 tasks.

AFAIK, currently nowhere is a SAHv8 CUDA app available for download.

setiathome enhanced x41zc, Cuda 5.00

Detected setiathome_enhanced_v7 task.

Thanks for digging that out, Dirk.

AllenIN, Don't do that, please.

Read Eric's original announcement again:

We've also made small changed to our science code to improve the Gaussian fitting routines. This means version 8 results are not compatible with version 7.

I, and others, are beginning to test a new CUDA application at Beta, where they belong. You will see several inconclusive validations, which confirms they aren't ready for use yet. But you will also see:

setiathome enhanced x41zf (baseline v8), Cuda 4.20

setiathome_v8 task detected

If I see anyone else damaging the main science database by running v8 tasks using a v7 application, I will have no hesitation in asking Eric to prevent their computer downloading any new work.

My RAC has crashed badly as well.
As I say, meowsigh.

Better times are coming. Dunno what v8 brings to the table as far as creds VS v7, does not really matter, it will all settle out where it does.

Hope is, that between Eric maybe releasing some stock GPU apps this week, and the Lunatics crew hot on his trail with whatever their optimizing wizards have come up with, most of us should be crunching hot and hard with our GPUs again very soon.

At least, that is what the kitties are hoping for....LOL.

Meow.

I think it's fair to assume that the question would be asked in a thread with the title "No more GPU Units?"...after probably searching the forums and finding that title.
