Message 1757501 - Posted: 19 Jan 2016, 21:14:39 UTC - in response to Message 1757497.

And I also know that Eric himself is not pleased with the way this was forced down HIS throat....if he had any say in it, I suspect there is no way this would have been done in the manner it has.
It came from above Eric, so please understand that this was not HIS doing...I feel it is very important for all to know that going forward.

Interesting

I won't quote our exchange, but have it on my word that he was not pleased with this. He would not have done this to us, if it was his choice.
The decisions were made over his head and opposition.

Like I said, I think everybody needs to know this, as I have such high regard for Eric, and would not want anybody to think that HE orchestrated this fiasco.

I've posted my equivalent of this analysis in the Panic Mode On (101) Server Problems? thread in Number Crunching.

Received my first V8 task a while ago. AVG Anti-Virus attempted to block the new application. I was able to add it to the exceptions list and it seems to be progressing just fine.

For those running third-party Windows applications, the updated Lunatics Installer is available via Number Crunching.

Been crunching the new GPU V.8 cuda32 but AVG has popped up on the cuda50.exe with the following threat "IDP.ARES.Generic" is this valid or can I tell AVG to ignore it?

Every effort has been made to ensure the new applications are virus-free. Check it through https://www.virustotal.com/ or the verification site of your choice if you have the slightest doubt, but I'd say it's a false positive and can be ignored.

Make sure that your anti-virus isn't blocking the application from running - it may have been waiting for you to respond to an alert on screen.

Apart from that, your tasks failed because they exceeded to time allowed without making any progress. You have:

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 (4095MB) driver: 361.43

That driver seems to be problematic - other people have reported problems with it too. Try reverting back one driver release.

If that doesn't cure it, follow the reports following message 1758179 in the number crunching area - please continue the conversation there.

I¨ve got a "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 (4095MB) driver: 361.43 OpenCL: 1.2" running absolutely fine on my Desktop.
I had problems with the driver that Win10 installed, but after getting the one from NVIDIA's site, everything runs smoothely ond fast.

One other suggestion: I was informed by NVIDIA tech support some months back that in error problems such as being reporting here, the solution can be as simple as a "Clean Install" if the new driver or the current driver is causing the problem. During the download process, a very small square box is provided to be "checked" and the clean install process will occur with only a couple of minutes of extra installation time required.

On my three GPUs, I routinely do a clean install when upgrading just as a matter of prevention. On a GTX 660 card on one occasion I had to revert to a previous driver. Currently, however, the clean install technique is near perfect in its application. Hope this assists.

As you have already processed some V8 work you need to do nothing.

If you run the stock app (not having Lunatics optimised apps installed) the update is automatic.

I am curious about the screen saver graphics in version 8 as version is on my machine the graphics button in not enabled and as I used to be able to see if things were going ok with this function i was surprised that this was or was not left out. what is up with this, I'm not complaining just inquiring.

Graphics are only available on tasks running on the CPU, not on tasks running on the GPU. Although this is possible without too many problems, I wouldn't expect this to change until version 9 comes along.
