Does it say what it was trying to download?

Edit - bl_bkg_800.jpg. Try setting "Skip data verification for image files", right at the very bottom of your global computing preferences page.

When I go to here:
http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php

It still says 7.6.22 for both the VitrulBox combo and the BOINC only installs.

When I go to Help-About in the application, it says I am running 7.6.9

FYI, I am on Windows 10 x64

Will BOINC eventually notify me when I can update, or do I need to keep checking http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php until it shows version 8.0.0 (or whatever the 8.X.X number is)?

Your confusing BOINC with seti@home. They are not the same. Think of Boinc as the operating system (windows), seti@home as a program (word processor) and work units as a data file (text). It is seti@home that has changed to version 8.00, not BOINC.

Ok, How about a link to the download? Better yet put it in the Notice.

If you are running stock CPU apps, you don't need to download the S@H MB v8 app - the servers will automatically send it to you when MB v8 Tasks are assigned.

Stock apps for GPUs are still being tested and are not yet available for all GPU types. When stock apps are released, they will work the same way.

3rd-party (Anonymous Platform/Lunatics) apps are also coming out, You can find download info in the sticky thread at the top of the Number Crunching Forum.

The bad thing though is that this isn't reported back to the server, so all work you appear to have in progress... shows as in progress, even when it has been discarded from your computer.

How and when the hundreds of "discarded" but still appearing "in progress" tasks will be cleanup from the computer tasks lists and statistics ?

As it now looks, in the natural way by letting them time out. They'll be resent end of February most.

How long might it take for my Android phone to get new tasks? This "Nothing to do waiting for tasks" has been going on for 3-4 days and my phone is starting to collect dust.. ;-)

No, really . Is there a timeframe I should be aware of?

Thank you in advance for a quick response.

You could sign up for Beta. My phone has been getting work there.

I've seen a couple posts touch on GPU's, but nothing explaining why I'm not running CUDU tasks. I look in the Logs and it shows:

1/16/2016 3:24:55 PM | | CUDA: NVIDIA GPU 0: GeForce GTX 780 Ti (driver version 358.91, CUDA version 7.5, compute capability 3.5, 3072MB, 2824MB available, 6247 GFLOPS peak)
1/16/2016 3:24:55 PM | | OpenCL: NVIDIA GPU 0: GeForce GTX 780 Ti (driver version 358.91, device version OpenCL 1.2 CUDA, 3072MB, 2824MB available, 6247 GFLOPS peak)

But there are no errors of any sort. GPU processing currently suspended?

There are no stock apps released yet to do GPU processing on the new v8 workunits.
When there is, your computer should pick them up and resume using the GPUs again.

V8 release is a bit disappointing when you have been processing packets pretty much since 2000. I no longer receive any work at all since V8 released.

Same here. The V8 rollout could have been alot better organized. And to not have GPU work for so long really sucks. I have never had such much heartache over a volunteer program.

All the best,

Probably because you had an error downloading 503 V8 tasks.

If you don't know why you probably need to post in number crunching to ask for assistance.

My guess, looking at your error is that your ISP is compressing jpg files (some do that) and as there are jpg files in the new V8 download it sees the wrong size file, and all WU downloads then fail.

If you go to you account page. the select "Computing Preferences" then scroll down to the bottom click "edit preferences" and tick the "Skip data verification for image files" box then "update preferences" and see if this helps.

Same here. The V8 rollout could have been alot better organized.

You are running anonymous platform applications, meaning that you have chosen for yourself which applications BOINC should use for this project. This means that you do not automatically get the new applications sent, so you do not get v8 work sent. It also means that eventually you will have to update these applications yourself.

Everyone with stock applications and capable hardware has gotten the CPU applications and v8 work. There is plenty to be had.

The optimized applications have always been released here after all of the stock applications were released. The GPU applications have also always been released after the CPU applications were released, because it takes longer for the GPU applications to work without errors on the many many different versions of GPU out there. What works on one brand and model GPU will not work on another brand and model, or even on another model of the same brand.

So that takes time to get tested. Which is why there is that wait for the GPU applications, and that wait for the optimized applications.

Of course, if you know of a better way to do such a big roll-out, you could just say so: put a post down with a detailed plan on how to do it, so that the project may follow it next time. Just so it looks like you have the best in mind and want to help out.

The problem with the roll out was that v7 work was abandoned before v8 was ready, not that v8 was not ready soon enough.

It still pisses me off.

I know hindsight is always 20/20.

And I also know that Eric himself is not pleased with the way this was forced down HIS throat....if he had any say in it, I suspect there is no way this would have been done in the manner it has.
It came from above Eric, so please understand that this was not HIS doing...I feel it is very important for all to know that going forward.

Having said that, I know that there is no going back now.
Shitty as it may be, we all now just have to wait for the backend of the horse to catch up with the front.

It shall, relatively soon.
And some of us gnashing our collective teeth is not going to make it happen any sooner.

Meow.
