Message 1754986 - Posted: 9 Jan 2016, 1:32:21 UTC - in response to Message 1754985.

Does anybody know what's going on why I can't get work?

Do you have excluded the BOINC directory and the BOINC data directory from anti virus scan?

No.
A short history, it was running fine on lunatics, APs and MB V7.
I ran out of work, uninstalled Lunatics thinking that would revert me to stock, that did not work.
I detached the box and then it downloaded a few "S@H banner files".
Then it downloaded a VLAR and that is what I got.

Is the setiathome v8 executable inside the setiathome.berkeley.edu folder?
If it is there, your AV software prohibits the execution of it. You'll have to exclude the BIONC program AND data folder from scan, or such things happen, because your AV software does not know the new executable and therefore prohibits its execution.

[edit]
There is a message in the BOINC log, that you have an app_info.xml file. Rename this file and restart BOINC. That should fix it, if not, the AV software is the culprit.

Even though this is a fairly new box, 2 mos. old, the AV is MSE which I have run for years and never had this sort of issue.
I did a Google search on the error and came up with something alluding to not doing a clean uninstall.

Good evening I just want to know if I can put the beta project on my main computer and set local preferences for it for gpu only since my gpu is now idle(had a BIG run of ap7.10's and some cuda 42 resends that are all done now) I would like to help with the beta testing of the gpu apps if I can do this then switch over to main when the gpu apps are ready for main. Thanks for any help.

Simply register/sign on at the beta site and there in the preferences side select to only crunch on the GPU, so deselect crunch on CPU, also set resource share to 0, so you only get beta work, if there is no work on main site available. Then attach BOINC to the beta project - that's it, BOINC will fetch work for the GPU if there is no GPU work available at the main site.

Thanks for the info but if I set the general preferences on the beta site to gpu only then my dual core that is crunching 8.04 will not get any more work I would like to add beta to my daily driver and set it to just gpu until the gpu apps are ready for main.

You can assign different preferences to different computers. There are sets for home,school and work. Create separate preferences for a new set and then assign that computer to this new set - that's it! ;)

Thanks again I thought that I could do this I just figured that I would ask first to make sure since I think that the results from many different gpu's will help make the apps better once they go main that is why my dual core is running 8.04 beta and my phone is running 8.01 whatever I can do to help the project to move forward. Thanks.

After renaming the file and re-starting BOINC, go to the Projects tab in BOINC Manager, select the SETI project, and click the 'reset project' command button. See if that clears it.

Which is the difference between the stock Linux 32-bit app and the one found on the top thread? I see they have the same length.

They have the same length, because they are the same app, downloaded from the same place. Just posted there for the convenience of people who were using the anonymous platform mechanism for SETI v7 or Astropulse v7, and were therefore prevented from downloading the new applications automatically.

I have done exactly that. So I am no crunching V8 CPU work from main, and V8 Nvidia GPU work from Beta.

Uninstalling Boinc and reinstalling fixed it. now I'm crunching V8.

Message 1755115 - Posted: 9 Jan 2016, 17:42:29 UTC

I'm interested in crunching v8 on Beta for NVIDIA GPU App.

I have an app_config.xml file that was for v7 AP and MB; I just modified it, is this OK???:

----------- app_config.xml - Beta ------------

<app_config>
<app>
<name>astropulse_v8</name>
<max_concurrent>1</max_concurrent>
<gpu_versions>
<gpu_usage>1.00</gpu_usage>
<cpu_usage>1.00</cpu_usage>
</gpu_versions>
</app>
<app>
<name>setiathome_v8</name>
<max_concurrent>1</max_concurrent>
<gpu_versions>
<gpu_usage>1.00</gpu_usage>
<cpu_usage>1.00</cpu_usage>
</gpu_versions>
</app>
</app_config>

------------- End app_config.xml - Beta --------------

When I launched BOINC with these settings; a Message came up in BOINC stating that v8 in app_config.xml is "Unrecognized".

Any help would greatly be appreciated. I will NOT engage BOINC until response is given here.

Thanks,

TL

There is nothing like astropulse_v8.

I would suggest to run a few v8 units without an xml file first.

Well, I read in another area that NVIDIA Apps were being tested at Beta, and I wanted to join in. However; I've been using an app_config.xml file that ORIGINALLY was created by Joe Segur to allow me to crunch multiple WUs on Beta, and Main.

How can I test the NVIDIA App without using an app_config.xml??? I DO NOT want to crunch CPU work, ONLY on GPU.

No probs.
If you dont have appinfo.xml at beta its no problem.

Just disable CPU on your preferences page at beta and you can start.
