For your own machine you can do what you want. I'd strongly advise against publishing anything for general consumption with that poor of a validation rate, but that's your decision.

What Q values are you getting for your test runs against stock? I am starting to load trial apps here, but only after I see them returning significantly better than Q= 99% in offline testing.

Side Comment: That's even tighter than I'd personally expect, though definitely was the consensus reached in v8 development as reasonable, achievable, and appropriate.

Looks Good to me.

These are Version Eight Apps compiled from the Repository,
NOT version 7 Apps compiled from a third party...

Repo version 8 apps should be fine, just expect some teething problems.

[Edit]: expect numbers to drift toward a <5% inconclusive/pending ratio , then I'd mark it as a 'good' build.

AFAICT so far, some frequency and parameter changes to the search, along with supporting several sources of data.

If someone finds the URL for the stock app we could try it out.

These two work for me:

http://boinc2.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah/download_fanout/setiathome_8.00_windows_intelx86.exe
http://boinc2.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah/download_fanout/libfftw3f-3-3-4_x86.dll

(you'll probably have the FFTW already, but you need to reference it)

Thanks, going to try it out.

If you get it to work, let me know how exactly.

I must be missing a step somewhere along the line.

I just downloaded the apps from Richard's post and edited app_info adding this section:

<app>
<name>setiathome_v8</name>
</app>
<file_info>
<name>setiathome_8.00_windows_intelx86.exe</name>
<executable/>
</file_info>
<file_info>
<name>libfftw3f-3-3-4_x86.dll</name>
<executable/>
</file_info>
<app_version>
<app_name>setiathome_v8</app_name>
<version_num>800</version_num>
<platform>windows_intelx86</platform>
<flops>10000108725</flops>
<file_ref>
<file_name>setiathome_8.00_windows_intelx86.exe</file_name>
<main_program/>
</file_ref>
<file_ref>
<file_name>libfftw3f-3-3-4_x86.dll</file_name>
</file_ref>
</app_version>

So far it's working fine, downloaded some WUs and is now crunching.

Thanks John for the app_info info, been scratching my head on that one.

But I will still wait a few hours to run down my AP tasks, since they are so hard to get before I make changes.

One wrong move in config files = empty cache :(

Finally, Woo Hoo!!

Thanks for that. I think my problem was I didn't move them right away to the seti@home folder, so they must have been corrupted. Redownloaded directly into the file and now all is good.

Thanks again

Edit...

I thought v8 was going to have a return of the graphics? I'm not seeing the "show graphics" on the CPU tasks.

If running under anonymous platform, you would require extra files+app_info.xml entries to enable graphics

[Edit:] note that v7 CPU had graphics tooo, just not as third party. The difference is stock vs third party, as opposed to a version thing AFAIK

So you are saying stock then should be showing the graphic? Interesting.

[CPU App] Should do. report if not, for sure.

Since I run lunatics on all my machines except the mac, will have to wait for some of the others to say whether or not it is there.

Don't feel like removing all my setting just to check, lol....

Yeah, It's been a few years, but transition periods do take a while to feel for the right way to head. That's possibly why some of us that have been here longer appear less panicked than some might expect for such a sudden change. We know that the shift takes time, and things have to shake out.

Where would I find the necessary files for Linux?

I'd suggest the files from Beta. I'm not sure if the files on Main are the Updated ones or the OLD 8.00 version. You Really want the 8.04 version...

Eric always re-numbers versions so that the first Main project deployment is numbered X.00 - though they will usually be direct copies of the final Beta version, 8.04 in this case.

You Linux guys can use any number you want, but the Windows Installer, when ready, will follow Eric's numbering scheme, whatever he's reached by then. Using Beta numbering on the main project is a likely cause of cache trashing.
