Does v8 mean I have to reinstall Luantics? Or will it kick over to stock apps until updates come? |

I wouldn't worry about changing anything just yet. They are still testing the apps. When Eric decides they have tested them enough, he will make the decision. Once that happens they will make an announcement and we can decide what needs to be done |

Does v8 mean I have to reinstall Luantics? Or will it kick over to stock apps until updates come? There will be a new Lunatics installer, when the various developers have let me have updated versions of a significant proportion of the 14 different applications we circulated for MB v7 last time. I think Eric may be preparing to make a public announcement on Friday (New Year's Day), and I don't think anything will be available before then. Small problem - I live in the flooded north of England. No problem with water - I live halfway up a hill - but it's getting into the electrics. I lost one rig over Christmas, and a second one failed to revive after a power cut tonight. Hopefully just PSU failures, but it all takes time to rectify and cuts down the available time for testing. |

And here in Oz the problem is heat, rather than technical difficulties (all good on that front). So adding Cuda MB v8 support is requiring some sweat. You live in the wrong place Jason. ;-) It's been a nice 23C up here in the highlands today, but then again we've been hard pressed to get above the mid 20's so far this summer. :-D Cheers. |

I'm curious, there was some talk about v8 combining MB/AP tasks, Is that true? |

I'm curious, there was some talk about v8 combining MB/AP tasks, Is that true? Highly unlikely in the stock application context. Might have been bits of pieces of plans for the Cuda x42 version leaking out at some point. "Living by the wisdom of computer science doesn't sound so bad after all. I'm curious, there was some talk about v8 combining MB/AP tasks, Is that true? I would guess that the work on the MB large, ~1MB, workunits & associated application would have been the first step towards that. Focus seemed to move away from that in favor of the mobile app(s). Hey Wiggo I know the comment to Jason was a joke but I tell you. NZ is a paradise. I could not get over the scent in the air. It was sweet like fruits. Lemons everywhere. The water on the beaches was like crystal. I love storms as well and some pretty big ones hit. Australia may be different but not by much I long to go back. Well take care and Happy New Year Michael |

I just got a new message: 2016-01-01 11:46:25 AM | SETI@home | Message from server: Your app_info.xml file doesn't have a usable version of SETI@home v8. So now what do I need to change? |

You will have to add an entry for pointing to the V8 application. Just now there are only a limited number of stock CPU applications, but I'm sure there will be optimised CPU ones coming along soon, with the various GPU offerings arriving when they've been through the mill. So now what do I need to change? See what Eric has just posted on the front page and in the News forum: SETI@home version 8 has been released. This version finally gives us the ability to process data from multiple sources, including the Green Bank Telescope. That means we'll be ready for data from Breakthrough Listen when it's available. So, you need to install a new, different, application - in addition to any v7 apps you are using at the moment - and add the extra references to it to app_info.xml. As usual, Lunatics is already working to make this easier via an installer, but it won't be ready for a while yet, for reasons that I've alluded to earlier in this thread (I need to have a reasonable range of applications to meet the expectations of users, they have to be tested, we're low on volunteer developers just at the moment, and I personally am low on test machines because the UK storms are messing with our power supplies and have killed two machines since Christmas). And it's a holiday! Please have patience, and carry on crunching v7 as normal - Eric has said elsewhere that there will be a considerable overlap while v7 continues processing Arecibo work, until the supply chain from Green Bank ramps up. |

If someone finds the URL for the stock app we could try it out. |

If someone finds the URL for the stock app we could try it out. These two work for me: http://boinc2.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah/download_fanout/setiathome_8.00_windows_intelx86.exe http://boinc2.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah/download_fanout/libfftw3f-3-3-4_x86.dll (you'll probably have the FFTW already, but you need to reference it) |

Whoa. Public Beta testing...cool. So this means I can bring my OSX GPU Apps, that I just started testing This Morning, over to main? Nice. If nothing Blows up in the next few hours I'll think about posting them at Crunchers Anonymous. |
