Pilot forced to slam on the brakes to avoid truck at Charlotte airport
An American Airlines pilot was forced to "slam on the brakes" to avoid colliding with a truck at Charlotte's airport on Wednesday, according to Air Traffic Control audio.

"They just went right in front of us," the pilot of American Airlines Flight 1197 can be heard telling a ramp controller in the audio, referring to the truck. "We nearly hit them. I had to slam on the brakes."

The pilot went on to explain that his taxi light was switched on, and the plane was moving, when the vehicle sped past. He described it as a white-and-black pickup truck used for airport operations.

"Someone's got to be notified right away," the pilot said. "That's really bad."

It appears the American aircraft was leaving the concourse area of the North Carolina airport and headed toward the runway when the encounter took place. According to the tracking site FlightAware, the flight to Ronald Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C., departed on time from Charlotte.

"Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) is aware of the reported incident involving an American Airlines aircraft and a CLT ground vehicle while taxiing near the gate on Wednesday morning," a spokesperson for the airport said in a statement to CBS News, adding: "Safety and security are top priorities at CLT."

Not your typical wreck!
Fort Worth police find 480 pounds of liquid meth during fatal car crash investigation
Police and fire crews responded to a car crash on Delga Street just before 11:30 a.m., where they found that a car struck a parked car and then traveled a short distance before stopping. Emergency crews found a man dead in the passenger seat of the wrecked car, the release said. Crews provided medical care to a man in the driver's seat, but he died at the scene. Their identities have not been released. Police said the Tarrant County medical examiner's office will determine the cause and manner of their deaths.

During the investigation, police found in the vehicle 10 buckets full of liquid, which was tested and positively identified as methamphetamine, according to an X post by the department.

"The total estimated weight of the substance was 480 pounds, and it has a potential street value between $1 million and $3 million," the release said.

Police said the fumes from the liquid were very strong, but were contained inside the vehicle. A Fort Worth firefighter working the crash was transported to a local hospital for possible exposure, but was expected to be released today in good condition.

Oops! Woman Lights Cigarette While Driving, Blows Up Her Minivan Carrying A Leaking Propane Tank
Key Takeaways:
* A woman was injured in Virginia when a propane cylinder leaked in her Chrysler Pacifica, causing a massive explosion that blew off the van's roof, windows, and doors, but miraculously, she survived.

* The driver was found with burns on her arms and shaking uncontrollably after the blast, which occurred at 7:30 a.m. on April 9, and investigators believe the leak may have filled the car with gas due to cold temperatures that morning.

* While the exact cause of the propane leak is still under investigation, it serves as a reminder of the extreme volatility of propane as a fuel source, with experts recommending proper ventilation and secure transport of propane cylinders to prevent accidents.

760-HP Mustang and 621-HP Audi Thought They Could Outrun Texas Cops… That Didn’t Last Long

It always starts the same way. Two drivers line up, powerful machines under them, empty stretch of highway ahead, and the belief that nothing can catch them. This time, it was a Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 and an Audi RS6 Avant tearing down a Texas freeway. Both brutally fast. Both built for speed. And still, it didn’t end the way the drivers probably imagined.

Out near Houston, in Harris County, deputies spotted the pair racing at high speeds along the Northwest Freeway. This wasn’t subtle. Two high-performance cars pushing hard, side by side, the kind of thing that stands out immediately to anyone paying attention. Law enforcement didn’t hesitate. A traffic stop was initiated, and just like that, the race was over.

Both drivers were taken into custody at the scene. No dramatic escape. No high-speed chase playing out across multiple highways. Just a quick shutdown and a reminder that even the fastest cars on the road are still subject to the same rules as everything else.

... There’s also something else that stands out here. It’s not clear whether these drivers even tried to run once police got involved. With machines like these, you’d think the temptation would be there. But raw power doesn’t guarantee an escape. Modern policing, traffic monitoring, and simple logistics make outrunning law enforcement far less likely than people assume.

... At the end of the day, horsepower doesn’t change the rules. It doesn’t give immunity. And it definitely doesn’t guarantee a clean getaway.

Two trains collide head-on in Denmark, leaving five critically hurt
Two trains have collided head-on on a level crossing north west of Copenhagen, leaving five people critically hurt and 13 others with less serious injuries, medical officials say.

The trains were travelling early on Thursday on a line linking the towns of Hillerød and Kagerup in the North Zealand area of north-east Denmark, with a total of 37 people on board, according to police.

Tim Ole Simonsen of the Greater Copenhagen fire department was unable to say what led to the crash but told Danish TV that all the injured had been taken to hospital by air or by ambulance.

... Public broadcaster DR showed images of two yellow and grey trains, both with visible damage to the front, facing each other in a wooded area.

... Rail accidents are rare in Denmark and one expert suggested one of the train drivers had ended up on the wrong line by over-riding a stop signal as the train left a local station. The Gribskov line is not thought to have been updated with an automated safety system.

Three-ton truck crushes £250k Lamborghini
A woman in a three-ton pickup truck accidentally ran over a £250,000 Lamborghini in a car park in Florida.
Ramón Ferrer, a Cuban-born entrepreneur, was looking for a parking space in his black Lamborghini Huracan when the modified Chevrolet Silverado came around the corner.
The pickup truck had been fitted with a lifted suspension that raised the vehicle’s cab so high that the driver was believed to have been unable to see the low sports car.
The truck rode up on top of the Lamborghini, crushing the front end.

Why are there such low-slung cars? Not suitable for road traffic. Really dangerous and irresponsible.

Why is there not a mandatory tall, red-colored identification flag on this type of 'flatfish'?

Why are trucks being used for personal transport??? Even much more dangerous and irresponsible. And with a jacked up suspension, even more so.

That low height Lamborghini would still have been higher than some short adults and higher than most children. If you're going to need that many groceries, use the loading bay with all the other trucks, not the car park which is, as it's name indicates, for cars...

Really.

Didn't you read

If the driver couldn't see that car, what would happen if it was a child?

aehm... I don't think both are mutually exclusive... but yes, sarcasm.

Seems the viewing angle from such pickup trucks equals those from the bridge of older panamax container vessels with deck structures and bridge located exclusively at the rear, above the engine room; the bridge behind most of the containers and almost level with the uppermost layer of containers.

Maybe tugs...., eehm... a tow truck... could help mooring such monsters safely at their berth in front of supermarkets?

SMART AND BRAVE KIDS!
Dramatic video shows middle schoolers bringing bus to stop after driver passes out
Dramatic video shows the moment quick-thinking Mississippi middle schoolers worked together to stop their school bus from crashing after the driver passed out behind the wheel on a four-lane highway.

Heart-pounding security footage obtained by ABC News shows the five Hancock Middle School students bravely stepping up and bringing the bus to a stop after spotting driver Leah Taylor’s head hanging limply after she suffered a medical episode while barreling down a highway in rural Kiln on April 22.

“She kind of fell over, like flopped over, and everyone started standing up,” one of the brave students, McKenzy Finch, told WLOX.
