Wiggo beat me to it. Not only have you got all the cars stuck with flat tyres, but then there will be all the other cars that didn't get flats but suffered tyre damage... Grant Darwin NT |

Hundreds of cars have had their tyres shredded this morning on the M1 motorway, heading south towards Sydney.Ouuch... Never heard of a more widespread incident with lost cargo. Simple cause... hundreds affected. Unbelievable. All the lost time of people.... but... there's a positive side also in misfortune. Tyre and towing services had the best day in a decade... financially... |

Some drivers might have needed a new set of tires before this. I wonder if the effected drivers were financially able to get new tires if they could find any for that many vehicles needing them at the same time. ![]() ![]() |

I wonder if the effected drivers were financially able to get new tires if they could find any for that many vehicles needing them at the same time. The company's insurance, that the truck belongs to, is paying for all the damaged tyres, but low profile performance tyres could be hard to find quickly. Cheers. |

Truck spills $800,000 in dimes on Texas highway: Watch the coin toss cleanup The vehicle carrying the dimes was driving through Alvord in Wise County, about 75 miles northwest of Dallas around 5:30 a.m. April 29, when "the driver veered off the roadway, overcorrected, and caused the 18-wheeler to roll onto its side," the Texas Department of Public Safety said. |

Well the price of dumping 750kg of metal shards on the M1 motorway last week is nearing the $2m (au) figure now. The company responsible for the shredding of countless tyres on a major motorway has now been slapped with a massive bill. NJ Ashton Group general manager Daniel Falconer said the company has received about “800 to 900 emails” regarding claims and 620 had already been processed. |

A very curious happening: Plane caught fire as pilot confused left and right wrote: A plane aborted take-off on a Gatwick runway after its co-pilot muddled up his left and right hands, investigators have found... ... Is this again a problem of cockpit design and overly stressful overly turgid cockpit procedures?... For a much less stressful example: One of my previous cars had a mix of round knobs and push buttons for the dashboard controls. All should be easy enough?... Simple enough??... ... Well... Yes and no. In the calm thoughtful state whilst stationary at a junction, no problem. Whilst concentrating on driving along in traffic, there were two knobs one above the other in the same area... It was all too easy to blindly reach out and unknowingly find the wrong knob to then be surprised that what was expected to happen, didn't. Worse still, even if only slightly tired, it was too easy to confuse the function between those two identical looking knobs. Surprise was especially guaranteed in that one of those knobs was "multifunction"... And for a real world example: A helicopter pilot was forced to make an autorotation landing. All totally unexpected. Upon investigation, the pilot was found to have turned off the engine fuel supply whilst in flight! ... He reported that the cabin was too hot and that he had intended to turn off the heater... There is more to cockpit ergonomics and operation other than manufacturer convenience... Fly safe? It was all too easy to blindly reach out and unknowingly find the wrong knob to then be surprised that what was expected to happen, didn't.Hah, What do you think of the state-of-the-art cockpit designs of modern cars with touchpads and displays for everything, e.g. for A/C, ventilation; heating; FM/DAB radio; entertainment in general; light switch (default automatic... of course)? There are no knobs anymore (err.. there is one... to adjust door mirrors). Have you ever driven, e.g. a modern VW Golf VIII, or any other modern VW SUV? I was shocked... https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f1/Volkswagen_Golf_VIII_-_Life_1st_-_Int%C3%A9rieur.jpg |

Another Darwin Awards attempt who survived. Airborne car crashes into Oak Cliff home; neighbors say it's not the first time The Brief
DALLAS - Residents of Oak Cliff say crashes continue to happen at a storied roundabout - and they continue to be captured on video. They want city leaders to step in. |

And I thought using an Xbox controller was complicated and fat-fingering yourself into virtual oblivion with the wrong press was bad. |

The city has plans to fix the issues with the problematic roundabout. The roundabout isn't the problem- the problem is oxygen thieves driving motor vehicles. Grant Darwin NT |

It is the word roundabout that is the problem, the correct word is crashabout. |

There are no knobs anymore (err.. there is one... to adjust door mirrors). Have you ever driven, e.g. a modern VW Golf VIII, or any other modern VW SUV? Yes... Unavoidably I have similar to that now... The touch display is dangerously distracting! Operation is restricted to voice operated commands to a human passenger, or held off until safely stationary or on an uneventful clear straight stretch of road. Worse yet is that the text on the display is far too small to allow identification at-a-glance, so a long hard full focus stare is required. Also, the response is very slow... ... So dangerously totally hopeless for use in traffic! Ergonomics??... Usability???... What's all that??? Drive safe?? Tesla is a superior car that drives automaticly. No need for ergonomics or usability. Isn't it?Ergonomics??... Usability???... What's all that???Tesla Probably the opposite, as the 'driver' has less time driving and therefore less time to familiarise themselves with the controls, it is essential that the controls are ergonomic, unambiguously shaped and logically placed, when the driver has to take command. |
