A camera near a pub in Staffordshire has captured a series of crashes at a road junction. Junction crashes caught on home's doorcam The pub's landlord has been chalking up the days in between crashes at a crossroads. |

Locals have called for changes at the A521 junction with Draycott Cross Road outside the Huntsman pub in Cheadle.Wouldn't be necessary if the people driving weren't idiots & incapable of following the posted road signs. Easiest and most effective fix would be replacing the give way sign with a stop sign and removing the 30 speed sign, & large speed bumps just before the intersection so even if they don't stop they'd at least have to slow down to an almost stop or destroy their suspension. And i've no doubt that's what would still happen- wiped out suspension due to the idiocy of the idiot driving. Grant Darwin NT |

People would still ignore the stop sign just as they ignore the give way sign and the speed limit. Speed humps are only of limited value with so many idiots driving.... Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

Speed humps are only of limited value with so many idiots driving....There are some rather severe ones in shopping centre carparks here where if you do it at more than a couple of km per hour & you're going to be in world of pain. However, the number of SUVs/4WDs that just continue to roll right over something that would destroy the average car if it tried to take it at speed will continue to ignore such bumps in the road. These days you have to be careful around shopping centres as extra high curbs that would rip the front panels off a car if they tried to drive up them don't stop people in their 4WDs from just driving right over them instead of taking the narrow windy roads to the actual entrance & exit. End result is large vehicles coming on to the road where you don't expect anything to be coming out there. Grant Darwin NT |

Making it a roundabout, with a substantial centre, would be better than speed bumps. |

Making it a roundabout, with a substantial centre, would be better than speed bumps. Yes, cut down buildings to install that roundabout. Only solution roadblocks on one of the directions. |

First, a disclaimer - I know that junction and have seen first hand how much contempt the users of the "minor" road have for the signs; I was stopped waiting for a couple of tankers to come past on the main road when an idiot was to impatient to wait and nearly got himself crushed by the first one, idiot shouted at me for stopping, then at the tanker driver for not stopping, then at the cop in the car behind the tankers....... There's actually enough "waste" land on that junction to divert the roads slightly and put a roundabout in - knowing how "fast" the local highways people do this sort of job the two or three years of roadworks (mostly one man picking his nose all day) and the idiots would get used to slowing down to get through the sea of cones and other barriers. Now for some truly terrifying numbers ... https://cdllife.com/2024/inspectors-placed-23-of-commercial-vehicles-out-of-service-during-72-hour-roadcheck-blitz/ Inspectors placed 23% of commercial vehicles out-of-service during 72 hour Roadcheck blitz Yes, that is right 1 in 4 HGV's shouldn't be on the road. ![]() |

What's really worrying is the top three vehicle defects. Defective brakes, tyre issues, other brake issues made up 64% of the reasons for declaring them defective. Oh, and for the drivers getting pinged- 25.4% didn't actually hold a Commercial Drivers' Licence (drivers were only 4.8% of the those 25% of vehicles that shouldn't have been on the road, but still...). The norm would be one train parks there, and the other passes. The fundamental question is, why that didn't happen last night? It'll be some time, but the RAIB report will be interesting. 1 dead, 15 injured in train collision |

A quick and early analysis of that Welsh train crash. Not yet the final verdict, of course, but there are are enough new facts in there to get your teeth into. Train safety system failed before fatal crash, report says |

Sanding has long been a source of failure, especially now many trains have very small pipes & orifice for the sand to flow down. Said "holes" don't take much to block them up, and it's not unknown for them to get blocked up while the train is in service.
