Boat versus house.

Boat smashes into a house in wild crash that left 8 people hurt at Lake of the Ozarks.

An allegedly intoxicated boat driver crashed into the shore of the Lake of the Ozarks late Saturday night, sending the boat smashing into a home and ejecting all eight people onboard, authorities said.

The 2014 Nortech motorboat plowed into the lakeside house around 11:55 p.m. at the 1.3-mile mark of the Osage Arm in Miller County, according to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The boat — powered by three outboard motors — first ran aground, then launched into the home and overturned, ejecting the passengers......
Funny that as I can count 4.

Cheers.

The boat driver, Adam Ramirez, of Huntington Beach, California, was arrested and charged with boating while intoxicated, according to an arrest report.
Just like high powered cars, high powered boats & drunken idiots aren't a good combination.

Very muddy rules
https://www.ntea.com/NTEA/NTEA/Member_benefits/Technical_resources/TechConnections/Rearimpactguardrequirements.aspx

I'm wondering if the Lambo with brakes locked is high enough in the front to even contact the protection until a good bit of the hood is already under the trailer. If it gets under at all you have an inclined plane situation where the car will lift the trailer. Eventually it will fail.

Of course the trailer may not have been in good condition, fleet operations. (Can't get fired because I backed the protection into a dock, just get my buddy to pull it back to is looks okay at a glance.)

I wonder if this has been brought about by the OceanGate submersible disaster.

US Takes First Step Toward Regulating Commercial Human Spaceflight.

US aviation authorities plan to explore establishing standards for commercial human spaceflight, a potentially significant change for a rapidly maturing industry that has operated without formal regulation for occupant safety.

The Federal Aviation Administration said Thursday that it’s creating a rulemaking committee to consider the process and costs of new safety regulations. It will gather recommendations from those in the commercial space industry and other stakeholders, with recommendations submitted to the FAA next summer.

The announcement comes shortly before a yearslong moratorium on regulating commercial human spaceflight is set to end in October. Since 2004, various pieces of legislation have been passed to extend the moratorium, which has restricted the FAA from imposing safety standards on vehicles that carry humans to space.....
Cheers.

Sadly yet another of our unreliable military MRH-90 Taipan flying fan thingies has fallen from the sky with what looks to be the loss of all onboard. :-(

Four feared dead after military chopper crashes near Hamilton Island.

Emergency crews desperately searching for four people feared dead after a military helicopter crashed off Hamilton Island have located debris.

The military helicopter, known as Taipan, had been engaged in a two-helicopter mission when it crashed at about 10.30pm on Friday.

There were four Australian crew aboard the MRH-90 aircraft at the time.

The second chopper immediately began a search and rescue operation.

An exclusion zone spanning 1000m has been established where a debris field was found......
The main body of the Taipan has since been retrieved, but sadly there's still no sign of the crew.

Tesla under investigation for Model 3 and Model Y steering wheels that freeze up
NHTSA’s office of defects investigation is probing approximately 280,000 Tesla vehicles over reports of loss of steering control.

One complaint reads:
Vehicle steering lost power steering and the steering is stuck in straight position only while driving. Vehicle can travel only straight line forward or backward and cannot turn. Powering off and on did not help resolve the issue. Had to get the car towed to Tesla service.

In other steering gone astray...

... Some passengers had an unexpected time warp back 25 years just like as can be seen on films...

But for real!

Aside from a rare Tube error, the disused Charing Cross Jubilee line station can be visited during the Hidden London tours, [from the surface,] provided by the London Transport Museum.

Do you all know that David Streeter is in the hospital? He was hurt on/about July 7. That's all I know. Dave's Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/walt.delcalle

This was on his Facebook page:
For those who are unaware, David had a serious fall and fractured several vertebrae in his neck. He underwent emergency surgery last night with mixed results. He is currently heavily sedated and in ICU at Loyola Medical Center in critical but stable condition. Currently once he improves he is scheduled to have additional surgery early next week. I, Gary Smith , was asked to be point of contact by David prior to his surgery. If you have any questions or otherwise please reach out to me directly as I don't have access to David's FB account from home.

There have been few updates posted.

July 18: David is currently still sedated and he remains in ICU following his third surgery yesterday. He is stable and his overall vital signs are okay. There is still no determination of his long term recovery, currently he only has limited movement in one arm. They are likely going to try to reduce the sedatives over the few days. He is still unable to speak. If and when the situation changes I will update again.

July 30: Good morning. David remains in ICU at Loyola. They are hoping to move him to a LTACH sometime this week if possible. Currently he is more awake and can answer some simple questions by nodding/shaking his head. I will update again as the situation changes.

The big unanswered question is does the driver still have a contractor job with Google?
Google Street View car careens into creek after 100mph cop chase
According to Middletown Police Department, a small vehicle was observed passing several others heading westbound on US Route 36 outside Shenandoah High School. The vehicle was deemed by officers to be driving in excess of 100mph (160kph).

The officer present, Chief Landon J Dean, dutifully began pursuit and said he was able to identify the vehicle as a Google Maps car by virtue of the 360-degree cameras mounted on the roof.

By the time he caught up with the Google vehicle in the 8500 block of West US 36, it was still going at more than 100mph and refused to stop, the police claimed. The chase continued for several miles into Madison County, where the vehicle slowed briefly at a red light – only to pass straight through, according to the cops' statement.

The pursuit came to an end east of Pendleton, when the driver cut south due to a bridge being out. It was at that point that the driver lost control and careened through a yard into a creek, say the cops.
