Meanwhile here down under a truck driver might take off ramps at a safer speed next time (or make sure that his load can't shift) after his early morning today.

Melbourne residents warned of hazardous fumes after truck crash causes chemical spill.

Many people won't be very happy about it all as the cleanup continues.

Cheers.

Pilot deploys parachute to slow the descent of his light aircraft as it crashes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnX7Z-uEMmg
A pilot escaped with just light injuries by deploying a parachute to slow the descent of his plane as it crashed on a busy road in Belgium.
The light aircraft was captured plummeting nose down on video by shocked residents in Sint-Andries near Bruges at about 2pm on Friday.
A parachute on the back of the plane lessened the impact as it hit the ground. The male pilot was able to jump out of his plane, relatively unscathed.
He later told emergency services that he had lost control of the plane due to technical difficulties. Firefighters rushed to the scene but the plane did not catch light.
Despite the crossroads in the middle of town being often busy, no other vehicles were involved in the smash.

If you are going to crash a plane that's not a bad way to do it.

In fact you have to wonder why arn't more planes fitted with them.

Cheers.

Vulnerability allows hackers to unlock and start Honda cars remotely
The keyless entry vulnerability could potentially impact other non-Honda makes and models.

I'm sad too say that, in many respects, this is old news.
From memory over the years this has applied to BMW, PSA group, VAG group, JLR, Volvo, Opel/Vauhall; and most Japanese cars. It's frighteningly easy to get the kit and at one time we had a warning not to use keyless entry unless "absolutely essential", and then only at very short range (this came out after the MD had his car stolen from a car park after he'd locked it from long range)

A few things could help:
Better driver education, better road markings, better signage being just three of them.

Terrified commuters were forced to escape a burning train that caught fire on a bridge by scrambling through windows, while a woman jumped into the river below.

A Boston subway train burst into flames on a bridge on Thursday morning, causing chaos as commuters escaped through windows and one resorted to jumping into the river below.

Wild video taken from inside the train showed passengers climbing through windows of the train and fleeing onto the tracks...

...Local authorities said 200 passengers evacuated the train, which was headed toward a Somerville, Massachusetts, station. There have been no reported injuries or deaths...
Cheers.

Wouldn't have made any difference in this case IMHO.
Anyone with half a brain would had to have known they were going the wrong way driving into the traffic like that- looks like they drove for quite some distance weaving in & out of the oncoming traffic, so either they just didn't give a stuff or were too drugged up to care (or probably both).

Morons and @r$h0les in powered vehicles, always a bad combination.

Tesla is in legal trouble and maybe forced to drop its "Autopilot" moniker due to its exaggerated capabilities that it can't live up to.

Tesla facing multiple lawsuits for alleged behaviour.

[edit] In other news an airline captain does the bolt.

A captain has sparked fury as he fled a burning plane first without stopping to help anyone else after an “almighty bang” at the rear.

Cheers.

12 months on.
Nobody listens
The sights seen in that 12 months.
No seatbelts on, phone in hand.
Sorry to say that the majority of those were young females.
The police & BBC did a documentary on that crash.

Incorrectly painted lanes on street cause confusion in Hollister, Cal
The city redesigned Ladd Lane to add a bike lane and central circles on the road. Their goal was to add those obstructions to slow traffic and prevent people from using the street as a drag racing strip.

The lanes were supposed to be slightly curved but ended up looking zig-zag-like and not straight.

What can 1 say?

New Los Angeles bridge opens, then quickly closes amid chaos.

The newest bridge in Los Angeles, a $588-million architectural marvel with views of the downtown skyline, opened to great fanfare on July 10. It has already been closed, to great dismay, several times since then amid chaos and collisions.

The 6th Street Viaduct — which soars over the concrete-lined Los Angeles River to connect downtown to the historic Eastside — quickly became a hotspot for street racing, graffiti and illegal takeovers that draw hundreds of spectators to watch drivers perform dangerous stunts in their vehicles.

Social media stunts have abounded as well — in one case, a man sat in a barber's chair for a haircut in the middle of the lanes. And the crashes are piling up, including a three-car collision where one driver, who had been part of a street takeover, left his white Dodge Challenger and ran from the scene. He later turned himself in.

The Los Angeles Police Department has closed the bridge multiple times — an exact count was not available Wednesday — and in the latest move, announced Tuesday that it would be “closed until further notice due to illegal activity and public safety concerns" before backtracking and reopening it hours later.

Officials hope to install speed bumps, safety fences and cameras on the less than three-week-old bridge to curtail the behavior. In the meantime, officers are impounding vehicles and issuing citations.....
Unbelievable.

Unbelievable.

It runs between skid row and the hood. Expected actually. Politicians being dumb don't plan for reality to intrude on their ventures.

Fire + liquid oxygen =

Truck catches fire and explodes on Seattle highway, shuts down half of I-5.

Thankfully no one was injured.

Cheers.
