‘Dutch Roll’ Incident Prompts FAA/NTSB Investigation
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating yet another alarming incident in which a Boeing 737 MAX 8 experienced a “Dutch roll” at roughly 32,000 feet —a rare phenomenon when the aircraft rolls in one direction and yaws in the other.

The incident occurred May 25 during a Southwest Airlines flight from Phoenix to Oakland. Pilots managed to regain control of the aircraft and land safely, although the aircraft sustained substantial damage to the standby power control unit (PCU), according to a report.

On Thursday, the FAA released a statement indicating it was working closely with the NTSB and Boeing to determine the cause of the event while noting that no other airlines have reported similar issues. Southwest also stated it would cooperate with the agencies and the NTSB expects to have a preliminary report within 30 days.

The incident marks the latest setback for Boeing, as the manufacturer deals with intense scrutiny following the January door plug blowout on an Alaska Airlines 737 MAX 9 flight, leading to a temporary grounding of the fleet.

FAA launches investigation into close planes over Syracuse New York
The Federal Aviation Administration confirms to NewsChannel 9 that it launched an investigation into planes caught on a camera possibly flying too closely.

A spokesperson said: “The FAA is investigating the July 8 event. It is routine for planes to take off and arrive on the same runway.”

The planes in question are American Airlines/Eagle Flight 5511, attempting to land at Syracuse Hancock International Airport, and Delta Flight 5421 taking off from the same runway, Runway 2-8.

NewsChannel 9 was the first to obtain and broadcast the video now being viewed across the nation.

It was captured by a police cruiser dashcam by a North Syracuse police officer who had responded to a car crash. The video shows an Onondaga County Sheriff’s deputy reacting to what they were seeing.

Monday, the FAA said: “An air traffic controller instructed Blue Streak Flight 5511 to go around at Syracuse Hancock International Airport to keep it safely separated from an aircraft that was departing on the same runway.”

After asking for a better definition, the FAA described a go-around as a “safe, routine maneuver performed at a pilot’s discretion or an air traffic controller’s request before a potentially unsafe condition occurs.”

American Airlines had a close call this time. They were leaving on a takeoff run and multiple tires blow out on the starboard main gear forcing a aborted takeoff. Then after they safely stopped a tire fire started.

Another news report shows the main gears tires on the port side where flat and the starboard side tires shredded.

Wondering if all these problems are related to shoddy maintenance and/or something more nefarious like "union" sabotage to keep jobs?

Would have been a result of the emergency braking after the initial tyre failure.

They got lucky there was still enough runway to stop in. It could have been a different story if they had no choice but to takeoff and come back.

Yep.
They were (very probably) below the V1 speed, so they were able to stop in time. If they were over V1, then they were committed to taking off- which probably wouldn't have been an issue.
All the smoking/smouldering/fire when the plane came to a stop is more than likely the result of the emergency stop.

If they'd taken off, they could have turned back and landed safely, most likely without the damage to all the other tyres. But the rules are that if there is a significant issue on take-off, and you can stop safely, you do.

Bus crash between Barcelona and Tordera injures dozens after vehicle crashes
(They mention it crashing at the exit of the tunnel, but to me it looks like it crashed as it was entering the tunnel- drifted off the righthand side of the road & then slid up and across the concrete of the tunnel).

It's pretty rough when you miss the hole.

I wonder what their partner has to say on that matter.

Cheers.

Drunk passengers cause mayhem on flight after bringing own booze
Unruly passengers wreaked havoc on a Wizz Air flight after allegedly getting drunk on their own alcohol, as seen in a viral video taking off online.

“The individuals initially resisted cooperation with staff who were doing their job to protect the health and safety of other passengers,” a spokesperson for the Hungarian budget carrier told Caters News Agency of the wild incident.

I wonder if she still has a job. :-O

A flight was cancelled after a flight attendant lost it at a passenger who reportedly made a very simple request.

Air Canada has apologised over the incident and said it “deeply regrets” that passengers’ experiences fell far short of what they have come to expect from the airline.

Flight AC73 was heading to Montreal from Morocco when an incident erupted between a cabin crew staffer and a passenger on Friday.....

A job is the least of the problems. Will this person have to change job careers?

Plane crash in Brazil kills all 62 passengers onboard, local officials say.

A turboprop plane carrying 62 people has crashed near Sao Paulo in Brazil, killing all on board, local officials near the crash site said.

Video shared on social media showed what appeared to be the ATR-made plane spinning out of control as it plunged behind a cluster of trees near houses, followed by a large plume of black smoke.

City officials at Valinhos, near Vinhedo, said there were no survivors and only one home in the local condominium complex had been damaged while none of the residents were hurt.....

I will be very interested in the result of this investigation.
The plane appeared to be in a flat spin, which is meant to be a significant risk for light aircraft, but almost impossible for larger aircraft to succumb to.
And even so, while one of the most difficult problems to recover from, with plenty of altitude (which this aircraft had) it can be done as long as the crew follows the standard recovery procedure.

How the !@#$%^&*() does a pilot of a commercial airliner enter a stall spin? Don't know how old that air-frame was or how updated its avionics were. Recent ones have software to prevent the pilot from even intentionally doing that.

The CVR, FDR, ATC and ADSB tapes will be very interesting.

And obviously stall spin not a VMC roll over.

face palm

You can stall at any airspeed but only one critical angle of attack.
Stall plus yaw = spin.

Apparently icing of control services are being looked at as it flew through some pretty bad weather.
