I reckon the baby in the bucket has been photo shopped in, but even without that i consider that bike to be more than just a little bit overloaded & an accident looking for somewhere to happen. Grant Darwin NT |

Serious incident when a Dutch KLM Embraer E190 took off from Berlin Airport with wrong calculation of available runway length. The cause of the incident was the touchscreen operation of the corresponding tool. https://avherald.com/h?article=4eea6fe4&opt=0 The Dutch Safety Board found several contributing factors related to the selection error:Scrap the touchscreens, back to classic keyboards? |

Scrap the touchscreens, back to classic keyboards?Yes, hell yes. Recently i read a review by someone that hired a Tesla instead of an ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) car due to it being at a very cheap rate. Basically, they loved it's performance & handling, and had no issues with it's range or charging, but the centre touch screen that is used for everything sucked massively. I get the impression that he's of the opinion that they need the self driving functions because the driver has to spend so much time navigating the touch screen just to do basic functions- such as adjust the mirrors, open the front trunk or even the glove box... Too many "designers" assume everyone has the time to hunt around a deep menu system. There is a lot to be said for single-function buttons/knobs rather than having to dig through a menu to find the control that opens the driver's window, or turns the wipers on/off. Touch screens and "classic keyboards/mice" have their place, but those places are few and far between in a road vehicle whilst driving where one is meant to be looking out at the road ahead, not staring at a screen in the car which is inevitably out of the driver's eye-line to the road. But touch screens are much cheaper than dozens of buttons, switches and several separate small displays for media, radio, A/C control. I think this trend can't be stopped anymore. Regulators will only intervene if there are unbearable numbers of accidents caused by drivers digging through their car's menu systems. |

+1 My 2017-model ICE car has a smaller touchscreen - mainly for ancillary functions like temperature control, audio functions, and SatNav. It's fine to use when the car is stationary, but a nightmare when the car is moving at even a low speed. My unsupported hand and arm has to reach out to the central console, and there's absolutely zero possibility of me hitting the right spot by touch alone: has anybody mastered touch-typing on a uniform flat screen, with no equivalent to the home-key pimple? So, I have to take my eyes off the road, re-focus one the screen, guide my finger to the correct image (or often several), and focus back on the road, all before I hit anyone. I've been surprised by how far I can drift off-lane in those one or two seconds, even when I've tried to make the changes on a straight, simple, stretch of road, and concentrated on holding a steady course. |

Another bus runs off the road. :-( They were crying … asking for their parents’: Trooper describes horror after bus falls down a ravine, killing 2 and injuring at least 18. Students and first responders alike are traumatized by the catastrophic bus crash that claimed the lives of two longtime teachers after the bus veered off an interstate and tumbled down a ravine. |

But touch screens are much cheaper than dozens of buttons, switches and several separate small displays for media, radio, A/C control. That's just it- multiple small non-touch screens and push switches are still cheaper than one large touch screen and the required hardware/software to drive it (at least at the present. A few more years and the number of small push switches being produced keeps falling, large touch screen prodution keeps increasing, then the price situation will reverse). I think it's very much a case of such systems first came out on extreme high-end luxury vehicles, so now everyone else wants to jump on that bandwagon, whether or not it's a good idea. If it's on such high-end vehicles it must be great, so everyone else wants one in their cheaper vehicle to keep up with the Joneses. And if the first vehicle you get has such an interface, then you won't realise that there are (were) better alternatives. Ah, here we go (i though i read something about this a while back)- People are getting fed up with all the useless tech in their cars "For the first time in 28 years of JD Power’s car owner survey, there is a consecutive year-over-year decline in satisfaction, with most of the ire directed toward in-car infotainment.Seriously- controlling the aircon through a touch screen????? Ask any pilot about a glass panel that doesn't have knobs. Ho does he like it in turbulence. Now how do you like you car touchscreen on pot holes? |

Now how do you like you car touchscreen on pot holes? No need for potholes. Some of the roads around here are getting rather old. While the surface might be intact, the base is getting all sorts of bumps, dips, ripples & ruts in it. Not a pothole in sight, but it still takes a fair amount of effort to keep going in a straight line. Some sections are so bad, they've reduced the speed limit from 130km/h down to 80km/h (and even then if you don't have your seat belt on you'd be hitting the roof). One section's been that way for at least 5 years now. Grant Darwin NT |

It was very lucky that no one wound up under that car as that beach is usually very crowded. Cheers. |

New footage captures insane moment car crashes through concrete wall, flips onto Balmoral Beach.Half a second sooner (or the pedestrians went by half a second later) and 3 people would have been taken out. Really amazing that no one was injured. Grant Darwin NT |

More on that fatal bus crash in the state of New York. :-( Bus company involved in New York crash was listed as ‘unacceptable operator’ after failed inspections. ......A document obtained by NBC News shows Regency Transportation Ltd. failed five out of 15 safety inspections for the New York State Department of Transportation 2022-23 year. The record also lists the company as an unacceptable operator. TODAY.com reached out to the New York State Department of Transportation for further clarification on what the consequences were if an operator was listed as unacceptable but did not get a response. |

A British Airways pilot snorted coke off a woman’s bare breasts before trying to fly a packed jet to the UK.There was some lucky passengers on that trip, even if they didn't get home on time. |
