Someone at Tesla must have heard the old joke that the part of the vehicle that causes the most accidents is the nut behind the steering wheel, so they left it off as a safety feature. :^p
Elon probably sacked the person in charge of that part. :-O

And another Fed investigation into another Tesla crash underway.

Feds investigating fatal crash where Tesla plowed into parked firetruck.

You do have to wonder what the driver was doing at the time (or did the steering wheel come off?).

Qantas pilots have been issued a concerning warning about interference from the “Chinese military” in the South China Sea.

Qantas pilots have been issued a notice warning about interference on VHF systems from stations posing as the Chinese military.

In a note issued by the airline on Thursday, pilots were informed the interference had been detected in the western Pacific and South China Sea.

“In addition, Group aircraft have experienced GPS jamming suspected to originate from warships operating off the North West Shelf of Australia,” the note read.

The airline assured pilots there had been “no safety events reported that relate to this activity”.

Pilots were issued directives on what to do if they encountered the highlighted interference.

VHF (very high frequency) covers radio waves at frequencies 30 to 300MHz and has multiple radio communication uses.

“Should flight crew experience this interference they should continue to track via their assigned clearance and report the interference to the controlling ATC authority,” the advice read.

“An Intelex Report must be submitted providing details of the event or any other unusual activity after landing.”

The International Federation of Air Line Pilots’ Associations also released a statement revealing it had been “made aware of some airlines and military aircraft” being called over certain VHF (very high frequency) numbers “by military warships in the Pacific region, notably South China Sea, Philippine Sea, East of Indian Ocean”....

I have no idea what this 1 was thinking, but thankfully she never hit anyone, and you would've thought that 1st time she got caught would've been a lesson let alone doing it twice (that we know of) :-O

Police were left scratching their heads after a woman was observed driving through Melbourne with half of her car missing.

Cheers.

ADF to investigate after helicopter ditched near Jervis Bay in counterterrorism training.

Two defence force personnel have sustained minor injuries after an army helicopter ditched into the water during routine counterterrorism training near Jervis Bay on the NSW south coast.

All 10 personnel on board the Australian Army MRH-90 Taipan multi-role helicopter were recovered from the water on Wednesday night and assessed at the HMAS Creswell naval academy, the Department of Defence said....

Just days before that Taipan came down there was this story and the bad reputation these thingies have.

Sting in the tail: why Australia’s Taipan helicopter purchase was a debacle from the start.

Labor government confirms it will buy Black Hawks from the US at a likely cost of about $3bn.

Finally, it’s official. Australia’s long-expected dumping of its European-backed Taipan helicopters in favour of US Black Hawks closes an inglorious chapter in the country’s defence acquisition history.

Over the past few years, there has been no shortage of negative headlines about the MRH90 Taipan, which has been used by both the army and the navy.

The entire fleet of 47 helicopters was grounded in 2019 to fix the tail rotor blades. Defence officials later conceded a fault found in one of the helicopters that year – when it was on its way to pick up the Australian defence force chief, Angus Campbell – could have led to “catastrophic consequences” if left unfixed......
Cheers.

Toll company failed to monitor, address icy highway before deadly I-35W pileup, feds find
A company’s failure to effectively monitor and treat icy roads and speeding contributed to a February 2021 pileup crash on Interstate 35W in which six people were killed, according to a report released Thursday from the National Transportation Safety Board.

Doesn't the TSA have better things to do?

Peanut butter is a liquid, TSA says
Whether it's creamy or crunchy, it's not allowed in your carry-on.

"I tried to take peanut butter through airport security," Patrick Neve tweeted. "TSA: Sorry, no liquids, gels, or aerosols. Me: I want you to tell me which of those things you think peanut butter is."

---
The TSA has weighed in with a definitive answer: It's a liquid. For security purposes, at least.

In a cheeky follow-up post on social media, the TSA shared its definition of a liquid, which "has no definite shape and takes a shape dictated by its container." According to the TSA, that does apply to peanut butter.

You may not be nuts about it, but TSA considers your PB a liquid. In carry-on, it needs to be 3.4oz or less. Make sure all your travel-sized liquids fit in one quart-sized bag. #PeanutButter pic.twitter.com/4RzDv3Up7B

Sadly, Another flying fan thingy crashed..
A police helicopter crashed Sunday in a sugar cane field in Louisiana, killing two police officers, the Baton Rouge Police Department said.

The Robinson R-44 helicopter took off after 2 a.m. to help with a pursuit and never returned, local media reported. The aircraft’s disappearance wasn’t noticed for several hours, when a search was launched. The wreckage was found before 11 a.m., officials reported.

Terrifying dashcam footage has captured the moment a truck careens down a hill without brakes, forcing cars into oncoming traffic.

Facebook page Dash Cam Owners Australia identified the truck as a “loaded semi”, weighing around 40 tonnes. The time stamp records truck hitting a top speed of 44km as it rolls down the hill.

In the footage, the driver can be heard blasting the truck’s horn in an effort to warn the vehicles ahead that the truck is in trouble.

The sedans and SUVs driving ahead of the truck in the single downhill lane can then be seen crossing double lines as the road moves around a bend....
The driver eventually makes it to an emergency safety ramp.

Cheers.

Moment tyre flies off vehicle flipping second car on Los Angeles freeway
A car was flipped by a tyre that came loose from another vehicle on the Ronald Reagan Freeway in Chatsworth, Los Angeles earlier this month.

Video recorded by a Tesla dash camera shows the tyre fall off a vehicle and strike an adjacent car, causing it to flip into the air.

In a statement, the Los Angeles Police Department said there were no major injuries following the incident.
