These lines from the article:
The court was told Richards, who was “visibly intoxicated”, admitted he’d had two drinks earlier that day.

and
Defence agent Matthew Nicholson said his client was a team leader for a “major financial institution in Edinburgh”.

Make me think - Two drinks = A bottle of gin & a bottle of champagne, that's two drinks isn't it?

Exactly my thought. However, I was thinking Whisky & Champers.
That's DD10 on his license for the next decade & high insurance premiums, but being a banker, doubt very much he cares about the cost.
He'll find it difficult to crash a bus seat for the next 14 months. :-)

Some banks actually take a very dim view of a DD10 arriving and a promotion to level P45 joins is added to the collection. That makes the arrival of the bus seat even more painful.

[edit] Unheeded recommendations might have prevented deadly Amtrak crash.
I've found that if you actually stop at a crossing and actually look to see if there are any on coming trains you can avoid getting hit.
The fact is that even if there are lights and boom gates, way too many people still don't take the hint that they should stop.

Small fleet of Cruise robotaxis blocked San Franciso streets for no apparent reason
I think there is still some work to do before vehicles can be run in fully autonomous mode on public roads.

Wellington pled guilty to a string of charges including culpable and reckless conduct to the danger of lives.
Wellington also pled guilty to assaulting Ms Cassidy in Edinburgh, breaching bail, threatening behaviour and spitting at a police officer.
I hope that DD will also be one of those charges.
Drink clouds judgement
What an insurance nightmare.

This is not what you want to see as you're coming in for a landing.

Qatar flight’s evasive manoeuvre to dodge hot air balloon.

At least it all ended safely.

Cheers.

Customer requested EXPRESS 1 HOUR DELIVERY and driver took it literally to mean "go the extra mile."

Oh dear
Caroline Hicks of the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency said fraudulently-gained test passes could be cancelled.
Could be? You'd hope they all were, and those people required to take them for themselves.

There are times i wonder if that sort of thing is going on here- the driving of some people over the last year or two really has me wondering how they ever got their driver's licence in the first place.

Fraudulent driving tests have been going on for many long year. Soon after I passed my test (over 50 years ago) I was chatting to a driving test examiner who said they had stopped a test when he realised he'd not long previously seen the person taking the test taking a test with a different name. Why did he spot them? - They made the same minor mistake each time, the sort of mistake that a seasoned driver would make, but a novice would rarely make.

That reminded me of a couple of mistakes made on my 1st test (car, before HGV tests).
Pulled up close to a single decker bus at a bus stop, no room to overtake, so waited.
After the bus moved off & I moved the QTO (army Qualified Testing Officer) said "after the lights, take 1st turning on the left".
Did so & after straightening up, he began to whistle (Been clued up earlier about him) so thought hard then realised the the indicator had not cancelled after turning.
Cancelled indicator.
Not long after, messed up reversing around a corner (quiet side street), he made me do it again. Much better but still sloppy.
Apologised & told him all my training was in a short wheelbase Land Rover. Took test on a long wheelbase. :-(
At the end of the test, parked up in the barracks, got asked several questions on the highway code, then issued me with a pass certificate. :-(
1 of 5 received while on that driving course which caused some problems for several years afterwards.
License still shows date of qualification as the same day (certificates sent to DVLA at end of course).
Lovely jubbly.

Pregnant woman says her fetus should count as a passenger in HOV lanes.
She got a ticket

That's totally inconsistent of the SCOTUS rulings!!!

One to be thrown back to them to change the rules again?...

Oh those people who drive across rail lines without looking.

V-Line passenger train derails in collision with truck in Goornong near Bendigo.

Thankfully only the 2 drivers were injured and neither seriously. Looking at the small amount of damage to the train it was either a very small truck or a very low impact speed.

Cheers.
