Two major ship fires reported on the same day, both involving car transporters:

Greek ferry: Hundreds evacuated from Olympia blaze off Corfu

Coincidence, or a pattern? Why does an echo of the exploding laptop batteries of a few years ago sound in my mind? How many electric cars were on board these ships?

All rather unusual.

And unusually, Russia is promoting an 'unconventional' war...

Is there a connection?...

Storm Eunice: Terrifying moment bus crashes into falling tree
Very lucky no one was injured, incredibly unlucky to have been in the wrong place & just the wrong time, but still very lucky it fell in front of the bus & not on to it.

Someone was going too fast down the hill and didn't make the bend, sadly someone else was going the other way at the time. :-O

Two killed in head-on crash between two road trains in NSW.

For the residents of Brewarrina it would've sounded like a very big bomb going off.

Keep your eye out for these things as they do tend to fall out of the sky. ;-)

Thankfully there were no serious injuries reported.

Cheers.

One dead, one critical according the the article (may have been updated since initial posting).

Actually i'm struggling to make sense of it.
The first paragraph
A police officer has died after the helicopter he was travelling in crashed into the ocean just off Miami Beach in Florida according to local police.

The splashdown occurred at around 1.10pm on Saturday local time, Miami Beach police said.
Then the rest of the article is about a police shopper crash in LA, same as your second posting
Police have confirmed that Nicholas Vella, 44, who has worked at the Huntington Beach Police Department for 14 years died in the crash.

A second officer is in a critical condition after he was rescued. The officer’s name has not been released.

I'm thinking both stories are about the same crash-- but the first story has some unrelated incident in Florida at the start of it.

The BBC is showing video of an actual crash - in broad daylight off a busy beach - and sourcing it to the Miami PD.

Miami helicopter crash: Police share video showing swimmers metres away from site

The Huntington event happened under very different lighting conditions - I think they are different events.

They most definitely were separate incidents and stories (when posted), though why the 1st link got messed up between the 2 incidents I have no idea, but the original link has been totally deleted now.

Cheers.

An interim report into October 2021's train crash near Salisbury has just been released:
https://www.gov.uk/government/news/interim-report-012021-collision-between-passenger-trains-at-salisbury-tunnel-junction?utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=govuk-notifications-topic&utm_source=772dae3a-5210-4a36-9f49-6b8c858b99a7&utm_content=daily
The finger looks to be pointing at crushed leaves and poor rail cleaning & treatment.

They even come down in pairs.

2 Utah National Guard helicopters crash during training accident.

There will be more to come on that story.

Lots of things were done wrong by Car driver and passenger.
A Bicyclist Won A 6-Figure Lawsuit After She Was Doored
(Car driver) parked adjacent to the Washington Street bike lane to let out (passenger), wedging his Lexus SUV between flex posts that line the green lane for cyclist safety. (Car driver's) hazards were on while the car was stopped.

... (Car driver) spoke to (passenger) with the door ajar for 30-40 more seconds, then she fully opened the door and hit (cyclist).

Just how much accumulates and how fast after a "cleaning" attempt anyway? Just how clean is it after a pass?

Of course this will get the crud off.

Navigation Tools Could Be Pointing Drivers To The Shortest Route — But Not The Safest
... at Texas A&M, designed a study to examine the safety of navigational tools. Comparing the safest and shortest routes between five metropolitan areas in Texas — Dallas-Fort Worth, Waco, Austin, Houston and Bryan-College Station — including more than 29,000 road segments, they found that taking a route with an 8% reduction in travel time could increase the risk of being in a crash by 23%.
