At least one person died and dozens more were injured in a collision involving two passenger S-Bahn trains in Munich, Germany, that also left the train's driver trapped. The accident occurred around 4:40 p.m. local time on Monday, and emergency services are at the scene, according to international news website BNO News. Andreas Franken, spokesperson for the Munich Police Department, told reporters at the scene that initial estimates indicate that 95 total passengers were on board the trains at the time of the accident, with at least 14 injured and one confirmed dead, according to Merkur, a local German newspaper. Some passengers were still being evacuated from the trains when Franken spoke to reporters, meaning the number of injured passengers could continue to grow, Merkur added. The fire department later said that the confirmed fatality was a male passenger whose name has not yet made public, Merkur reported. The trains collided on a single track route after one train departed from its station and hit another train that was entering the same station, according to Merkur. Eyewitnesses told the paper that one of the trains stopped repeatedly before passengers heard a loud noise, and many were thrown from their seats when the collision occurred. Gary has provided a link to one of many crashes and near misses in which the pilot and or passengers have been affected by Carbon Monoxide. This really applies to small aircraft with air-cooled engines as many (all?) get the cabin heat air from a heat exchanger on the exhaust system (rather like those on ancient VW Beetles). A little bit of corrosion or seam damage and hot exhaust gases can enter the cabin and the silent killer gets to work :-( In these aircraft a Carbon Monoxide detection & alarm system would help, but I doubt that a certified system would be less than a few grand (but would probably be the same as the non-certified one you can buy "on the high street") Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe?
