Interesting report. Sadly it highlights a worldwide problem. It takes a major disaster before necessary action is taken. |

Picked up a copy of the Metro on way home this afternoon. Spotted a "lovely" photo with just a caption. A lorry & a van became wedged under a railway bridge following a collision in Epsom, Surrey.Pretty sure I recognised the bridge so searched for the photo on Metro online. Sadly they split into the print & online versions some years ago. So, googled Epsom bridge strike as nothing about it on the online edition. Sure enough it was reported yesterday. However, that van looks like a Mercedes Sprinter, but the report that photo was taken from states that it was just a lorry with the cab jacknifed & on the A24 in Epsom. Nope, pretty sure that it was a B road so checked via Google Maps. Yep, B284 in Epsom (Hook Road). Quote from today's edition of Metro. Photo from Daily Mail's report yesterday. ... You gotta love modern journalism. Underpaid, over-rushed, with expectations of global writing yet uneducated for anything local or detailed. All lost in the mush of 'social media' snippets?... All lost in the mush of 'social media' snippets?...Does that include Surrey Police? Very likely for their deskbound minimum wage PR 'communications facilitator'... Note the adage about being promoted up to a level of incompetence?... There has to be better ways... As a student (so nearly 50 years ago), I remember borrowing my parent's Volvo estate for a student houseparty. I think we got 10 into that... but only for a couple of miles on quiet roads. |

There is the old student game of seeing how many people can be crammed into an old-style mini... A variation of that by the hiking club was for how many people can stand at the same time on top of a trig point... We use to do that a lot here back in the days before seat belts and seat belt laws. ;-) Oh the days of sitting in the back of the ute while going down the highway. LOL Cheers. |

Tesla vs insecure loadTalk about lucky. If the load had come off just a fraction of a second later i don't think he'd be around to talk about it. Grant Darwin NT |

Will any action be taken about the dangerous load and/or dangerous driving?... I've seen where a scrap wagon was shedding its load in front of me. On that occasion the driver did stop, he knew about it, and had stopped a few times already on his journey, but he was under pressure to "just get there" and no time or ropes or tarp to secure all the flailing pieces thrashing in the wind... No good answer to that one other than to keep a ridiculous distance clear and be ready on the phone if anyone did get hit or damaged... Brain cells?... What's them? I was lucky on that occasion... Stay safe folks! Martin See new freedom: Mageia Linux Take a look for yourself: Linux Format The Future is what We all make IT (GPLv3) |

And I thought the speeders were crazy here in the USA; but this one in the UK is a doozy! Banned driver jailed for speeding at 130mph with boy, 7, in car during police chase The man, age 26, was sentenced to 30 months behind bars after what the investigating officer called "one of the worst cases of driving I have seen in my 20 years of policing". |

9-Year-Old Driver Slams Head on Into Semi After Swiping Keys to Parents' Car Miraculously, no one was injured. For all their wild ideas, both girls had made sure to fasten their seatbelts — a fact that ensured their joy ride ended in expensive damages instead of costing them their lives. |
