Too soonYep. The government confirmed that drivers will not be required to monitor the road or keep their hands on the wheel when the vehicle is driving itself. Grant Darwin NT |

Too soonYep. Heck..... A lot of drivers of conventional cars can't take over within 10 seconds to respond to real life driving situations. "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." |

Geeze, if you're not interested, or willing, to drive your own car, then for the sake of God, take the bus, or the train, or a taxi. +1 |

... Where in heavens name is this world heading? Just because it's possible to do something (technologically, medically, genetically, or otherwise), All by the power of Marketing. All eagerly gobbled up by the unthinking masses of sheep. And hey! We are already 'chipped' by RFID tags in everything we buy, and by tracking our mobile phones for every move we make and for everything we do. Google fills in the rest for what we think... IT is what we allow it to be... Martin See new freedom: Mageia Linux Take a look for yourself: Linux Format The Future is what We all make IT (GPLv3) |

We are in the first good session of rain in about a month, falling onto long time dry roads, and... There's just been a three car crunch near here. Noone hurt but all very embarrassing, especially for where one car ended up slewed past the intended turning to eventually stop across the wrong side of the junction... Looks like that driver locked up all four wheels whilst braking whilst simultaneously turning into the junction. That is far too late bad braking that you might get away with when in the dry and grippy. No chance when blindly trying that in the freshly wet and slippy... And there really does seem to be a strong effect that the roads are unusually slippery when doused with the first rain after a long dry spell. Stay safe folks! Reuters - Mexico City rail overpass collapses, killing 15 and injuring 70 Looking at that from other sources: That area of viaduct was reported to have suffered cracks from an earthquake. Supposedly, repairs were made. The point of failure looks to be at the midpoint where beams meet at an angle for where that section widens out, possibly for another track. ... Joint failure due to weakening due to other fixings at that point or due to increased load at that point, or a combination of all? With added corrosion to further weaken the joint? Note, support beams do not normally 'snap' in the middle! Not without other detrimental factors... Stay safe folks! Sadly it appears that the death toll has now reached at least 23 :-( https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-56985164 Also there have been some unsubstantiated reports that suggest this section of line has not only suffered from earthquake damage, but also from poor workmanship during construction and repair. Better late than never However, I'll lays odds that there will still be crossing jumpers occurring by those who won't want the "extra" driving time involved. |

Sadly it appears that the death toll has now reached at least 23 :-( In this report: Mexico City metro: Hundreds protest at scene of deadly rail collapse In there, there is a picture that clearly shows the point of failure to be at a joint between very different beams at the mid-point of the span. The neighboring spans are made using beams that each cover an entire span. The failed span used multiple beams that only covered half the span. Those collapsed beams were most likely bolted together at a joint in the middle... Stay safe folks! Car vs. truck, inattentive driver vs. red light runner. Footage of car slamming into side of truck at Western Sydney intersection divides viewers. Cheers. |

Car vs. truck, inattentive driver vs. red light runner.Truck driver completely at fault. It's not like the truck was tailing the other vehicles that were going through on the amber. All well and good saying the car driver needed to be more attentive- as it was they waited for the cars that were still turning across their lane even though the light had turned green. Once those cars were gone, they moved out. Why would you even suspect another vehicle would come through so late in the cycle & a couple of seconds after all the other vehicles had cleared the intersection? How far do you have to take it? Sit there for 5, 10, 15 seconds after the lights change before going through in case one one is a total @r$hole decides a red light doesn't apply to them? That's the whole point of the lights- if it's green you can go. If it's red then you don't. Grant Darwin NT |

That's the whole point of the lights- if it's green you can go. If it's red then you don't. If it is like the junction near my eldest son, the lights for the truck only get a cancellation of the turn right green. Meaning he has to follow the normal rules for turning across traffic, and as they haven't started moving then he might think wrongly he can continue his move. At the junction near my sons, if you are in the cars position you frequently have to either jump a few meters forward or creep forward to signify to those turning right that you now have a green. It's made worse by the lights having movement detection, and therefore if the car doesn't move quickly enough then the lights think there is no traffic there and go through to the next phase of operation. |

‘We need to get people off the bridge immediately’: Hear the 911 call that brought traffic to a halt Inspectors were conducting the first day of inspection of the Hernando de Soto Bridge when they spotted a crack in one of the beams that help keep that bridge standing. The Hernando de Soto Bridge is outside Memphis, crossing the Mississippi River and straddles the Tennessee-Arkansas line. |

Inspectors were conducting the first day of inspection of the Hernando de Soto Bridge when they spotted a crack in one of the beams that help keep that bridge standing.Looks like it's gone well beyond being a crack. And regardless of how long it takes to repair that fracture, that bridge is going to need one hell of a close inspection all over before it can be cleared for traffic again. A very good thing it was found when it was. Grant Darwin NT |
