As the title says, I've been crunching on an EliteBook 8640W. Certainly not the fastest GPU in the world, but it has been working without any issues using the Lunatics HD5 app on Windows 10. With the latest Windows 10 update, the app is now crashing the display driver which causes the task to hang. I un-did the update and now the FirePro is happily crunching away again. Anyone else run into the same or similar issue?

Windows 1 has brought a who;e load of woes to some folks, take a look at this thread http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=77121, particularly some of the more recent posts.

Drivers installed by Windows (Update) usually break the computational capabilities of the GPU, because these aren't included in the drivers given out by Windows. You need the drivers from the GPU manufacturer to have those parts included. But it then happens that Windows 10 decides that those drivers are too old to be good enough, and it installs drivers it finds better for your hardware. You have no choice in this.

Which is one reason why Windows 10 will never see the light of day on my system. Not unless they remove that crap.

You have no choice in this.

I'm not sure (can't test, have no Windows 10) but I think these two programs can disable the automatic driver installation:

Yes I can verify that with O&O Shutup 10 you can turn off everything you do not require. I get no driver or app updates from MS I do them all myself as required. This is with the Home edition. You can actually turn off updates completely, this however is not recommended by O&O.

After any major updates I just download the latest version of Shutup and check that all is still good. So far I have had no problems on any of my three machines running Win 10

As they say YMMV
