I've always used the overclocking tool in the driver. Depending on the GPU you have it can look different. I've found that I can normally start in the 15-20% OC range and then slowly go up from there. In the image on the left is my R9 390x with just the GPU overclock but not the memory. Right right is the HD6870 in my HTPC that I don't OC. When I was using a HD6870 in my gaming PC I had the GPU clock to 1000 & memory at 1200. Normally I find the auto fan control to be fine. Except with my HD5750 in the summer. Then I set the fan speed manually, but that PC lives on the top floor of my home where it gets hottest in the summer. Which tool would be the 'best' for to overclock an AMD VGA card? With my ATI HD5850's I have always used MSI afterburner. Also I never overclock the core at more than 90% of what MSI would let me do. For Seti the memory clock can be set as low as you can get it to save heat and power. For other Boinc projects leave the memory clock high. At least that works for me, I can't guarantee that it would be suitable for you. As they say YMMV. What I do know by experience is that Nvidia cards are more suited to Seti work than AMD/ATI cards. My 5850's used to get an RAC of about 6000. My new Nvidia 750Ti is up to 13,000 RAC out of the box. But it is a factory overclocked sniper edition which helps. |

it depends on the design i have two 295x2(s) in reference design, one from xfx and the other from diamond. the specs are the same and they also match the official specs for the card. i consider the cards to be essentially identical my three 290x(s) are dual fan from asus with a slight factory overclock my 390x from asus is triple fan with a slight factory overclock |

it could depend on what clocks are OCed. Shader or memory. |

Thats not true. Sapphire as well as Assus sell overclocked AMD cards. I always buy Sapphire. Not sure about Furys yet. I found out that overclocking AMD cards don`t give much benefit for Seti but i guess this more depends on OpenCL rather than the GPU itself. With each crime and every kindness we birth our future. |

AFAIK I could buy manufacturer overclocked nVIDIA VGA cards, but no manufacturer overclocked AMD VGA cards. Is there a reason that the board partners don't sell overclocked AMD VGA cards? It would be a good idea to overclock an AMD VGA card and crunch SETI tasks on it continuously 24/7? It'll reduce the lifespan? I have no experiences with VGA card overclocking. I bought a few manufacturer overclocked nVIDIA VGA cards in past. It's possible to overclock an AMD VGA card without changing the voltage? (In past I overclocked my Intel Core2 Extreme QX6700 2.66GHz to 3.14GHz with stock Vcore.) Which tool would be the 'best' for to overclock an AMD VGA card? AFAIK there are test tools for to test the overclock, AFAIK this are 3D tools. Here at SETI the VGA cards use 2D, or at least no 3D... ;-) There are specially test tools for to test (SETI) crunching stability? Or, which 3D test tool would be the best for to test (SETI) crunching stability? Thanks thus far. ;-) BTW. I have four 'AMD Radeon R9 FuryX' VGA cards. EDIT: Maybe somewhere in the web is a manual how to overclock AMD VGA cards?
