Yes, that was a great innings by Smith.
143-8 (66 for Smith) followed by
141-2 (78 for Smith) - Root messed up big time with his fielding tactics. The team should have gone all out to get those last 2 wickets as cheap as possible, not fiddle their thumbs lining the boundary. :-(
