This is a question that only a handful of SETI staff can actually answer but nonetheless let me post it here...

Have the Chinese been approached for installation of a piggyback device, similar to the one installed on Arecibo, for the FAST radio telescope currently under construction?

Really is a great opportunity to acquire additional data. Five hundred meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope (FAST) in Pingtang County, China
Never engage stupid people at their level, they then have the home court advantage.....

It's in the New York Times. I'm putting the answer to my question as a definite maybe!

NYT has a paywall for me. But I read that the Chinese gov only gave those people 1k-2k USD for relocation. That doesn't sound like a lot. Or maybe it is, depending on their property value, or if they even own their own homes? I did hear they do this a lot. They evicted 3 million people for the 2008 Olympics. I suppose all governments have that problem. In the US, commercial developers sometimes have the local governments force people out of their homes with unfair compensation.

In which case do we actually want anything to do with it on moral grounds?

Question is moot. Their government does not want anyone to be able to gain state secrets and everything related to this project is a state secret.
