A relatively minor issue (yay?): For the Beta message boards, the icons that represent "read threads"/"threads with new posts"/etc. aren't showing. It can still be figured out, but I just like being able to 'glance and go'.

that got fixed

Oooh, I only just noticed, we have loads of new work. I have a lot of tasks dated 04, 05, 07 and 08 August 2015. What are the other dates of this batch?

They started with 01au15aa, I think. I'll have a full list at the end of the month.

What chances of such coincidence between v7 and v8 vs just plain error in server status printing?...

Likewise.
I've had a couple on my CPUs, most have been to the GPUs. Generally getting a few (or more) each day on each system. The last couple of days the numbers have started to drop off slightly as the number of v7 WUs still to be done declines.

I eagerly await a Nvidea GPU app for V8 so one of my hosts can stop crunching Einstein.

...and the wait for more tapes for AP begins. My 10-day stockpile has been depleted.

Oh well, at least I don't have to keep telling BOINC to snooze when I do some video encoding now, so.. there's that, I guess.

I've been AP dry since Friday. Two rigs now dark as they are too inefficient for MB v8 in CPU mode.

Message 1757513 - Posted: 19 Jan 2016, 22:55:55 UTC - in response to Message 1757508.

As you can imagine, I've had a number of PMs while waiting for the right moment to release GPU apps. One guy got my best attempt at a reply on Sunday:

We're nearly there, but a lot of cats have had to be herded into place first.

First, be aware that the initial release deadline - for some apps, any apps - to be released by 31st December was set somewhere above Eric's head. We don't know who by, but we suspect something to do with the Breakthrough initiative.

Unlike the rest of us, http://www.breakthroughinitiatives.org/ seem to have been enjoying an extended Christmas and New Year holiday.

Eric has the tools to compile applications for CPUs (only). His applications are definitive. Optimised CPU applications, and GPU applications, can only be developed and tested once the specifications are finalised and a reference build is available for comparison. That reference build - incorporating refinements for errors encountered during testing - is the v8.04 Beta build, deployed on 28 December at Beta, and as v8.00 on 30 December here. That's minimal testing.

Eric doesn't have the tools, skills, or time to develop GPU versions - and nor does anybody else at Berkeley. It is, after some initial input from NVidia corp, entirely a volunteer effort. I know the NVidia range best, and I've tested x41 zf, zg, zh and zi since the New Year - I think we're finally ready to go. Likewise the other hardware variants.

I've spent four hours so far today working through and updating the various Read Me files. After I've broken off for a late lunch (allowing other collaborators to proof-read my work), I'll be building a release candidate installer and starting to test it. Only then will I email Eric, tell him what we've got, ask him some final questions (like what version numbers and plan classes will be used for the Main project release of the contributed applications, so I can be sure I matched - guessed - them correctly). And ask for his permission to go ahead.

And when he does his final release to Main, I should be in a position to follow within hours. He usually releases just as I'm going to bed in my time zone: I release the following morning, so I can be around to field queries and problems.

And now you know as much as I do.

And now we all know.

However I expect the "When? When? When?" questions will continue & they will probably only last for a few weeks after the official release.

why don't you set the video encoding program as exclusive app or exclusve gpu app?

Some APs or a new installer or something is needed....I need supplemental heat, I need to warm up my GPUs. It is cold in this town... ;-)

Thank you Richard, and thanks to ALL the volunteers (testers and developers)for the time and effort devoted to making this whole thing work. You all are appreciated by those of us 'working the lines'.

You all do a great job........

. . . I've tested x41 zf, zg, zh and zi . . .

If I may, to what do these refer?

They are different iterations of the CUDA x41 branch app.

For example the MB v7 CUDA 2.3 app Lunatics_x41zc_win32_cuda23.exe
