Just a quick data point here: I have an old HP Compaq 8000 Elite SFF desktop set up as a server in our home running Oracle Solaris 11.2 that runs BOINC 7.7.0 (downloaded from GIT) and SETI@Home 7.28 (downloaded from SVN) compiled with all Solaris-bundled packages (gcc -m64 -march=core2) & libraries. Only minor modifications to the source code were needed to get it to compile & install.
