Detailed Color Image of Pluto's Moon Charon Revealed

NASA has just released a detailed color image of Pluto's moon Charon. The very large basin like feature at the top of the image is notably red. What is probably a very eroded, large impact basin is just to the left of this. The upper part is relatively smooth, and has presumably been resurfaced by geological processes. The middle is riven by a huge canyon and very broad rills, not unlike the Valles Marineris on Mars. The bottom part is cratered, and contains some large craters and many long, thin, sinuous rills. Couldn't edit above post, as site was down for awhile. Large round feature that may be a heavily eroded impact basin is to the right, not left, of large reddish area near Charon' pole. I haven't seen this feature described before. |
