I'm old cruncher and use BOINC more than 10 years. Crunch for SETI@home. Now use Windows 10 64 bit and BOINC 7.6.9 (with Lunatics). Watch for my CPU and see VEEY BIG 12-15 processor queue length. I don't know where it happened but my PC reeze time to time. Any ideas? Thank you http://boincstats.com/signature/0/user/2449327/project/sig.png http://boincstats.com/signature/0/team/88019747/project/sig.png |

Explain "12-15 processor queue length" It is unclear (to me at least) where and what you look at Do you mean something like this: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc940375.aspx  - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :)  |

Yes. Also read this http://www.myfavoritegadgets.info/tipstricks/ProcessorQueueLength.html I use special software for watching about http://boincstats.com/signature/0/user/2449327/project/sig.png http://boincstats.com/signature/0/team/88019747/project/sig.png |

It would seem that your queue length should be expected behavior. According to your link: Different guidelines apply for queue lengths on multiprocessor systems. For busy systems (those having processor utilization in the 80 to 90 percent range) that use thread scheduling, the queue length should range from one to three threads per processor. For example, on a four-processor system, the expected range of processor queue length on a system with high CPU activity is 4 to 12. Emphasis mine. You have 8 CPU systems, so 12-15 shouldn't be unusual. As to what is causing your freezing, it certainly sounds like a bottleneck or a failing component showing signs under stress (I'm sure removing the stress of BOINC would make the symptom go away, but that doesn't mean it was fixed). |

Also read this ... I hope you didn't created this thread just to promote Ad-Ware?!: https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/58244cd7309a79a0b6d16e79b62d8a694fac45f94fc49d02bfe21f3675c6317c/analysis/ P.S. A few months ago I reported your "BOINC Monitor" gadget because of this and it was removed from boinc.berkeley.edu/addons.php Me: To: 432107 (David Anderson) David Anderson: I removed BOINC Monitor for the add-on list. Agree with this but 2 month ago I have 1-3. Nothing changes. No additional program installed You installed a whole new operating system. If that's the only thing changed, don't you think that's the first thing you should look at? BOINC doesn't use the CPU, that's done by the project's science applications. But BOINC does tell the science applications how much of the CPU to use. Are you sure all your preferences are still correct? |

You installed a whole new operating system. If that's the only thing changed, don't you think that's the first thing you should look at? Yes. That is reason to ask? Why in new OS so big processor queue length? It is problem OS or other software? My preferences doesn't change. I'm sure. Always use 100% CPU. Problem not in big CPU usage. Problem is big CPU queue. Why? http://boincstats.com/signature/0/user/2449327/project/sig.png http://boincstats.com/signature/0/team/88019747/project/sig.png |

Agree with this but 2 month ago I have 1-3. Nothing changes. No additional program installed Sometimes I will find a machine where BOINC has 30-40 hours of CPU time & is using 150MB+ of memory, but I haven't seen any systems hangs from such behavior. I think that normally occurs for me when we have an unexpected outage & BOINC keeps making requests over & over. I'll just restart BOINC or the system at that point. You installed a whole new operating system. If that's the only thing changed, don't you think that's the first thing you should look at? Because you're not leaving any CPU time for your GPUs, thus the CPUs are being over-queued. Leave at least one CPU core to feed your GPU and your CPU queuing problem should go away. |

I don't see any secret in the following PM so I better answer here (so others can comment also): PM From Igogo: Hi 1) In your second post you provided link to "System Monitor II gadget" At the bottom of the page: "Our System Monitor II gadget ..." "Copyright © 2010-2015 Igor "Igogo" Bushin All rights reserved worldwide." ... so it is obviously your gadget and/or your site. 2) I downloaded SystemMonitorII_MFG.7z and scanned it by local ESET NOD32 Antivirus As I was expecting - the installer have InstallCore https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/InstallCore "Many of the installers using the platform have been rated adware and Potentially Unwanted Programs (PUP, also PUA), by anti-malware product vendors" 3) Then I sent the file to VirusTotal - the file was already scanned and I provided the link to that VirusTotal scan. So you posted a link that will/may lure people to download and install "System Monitor II gadget" which will in fact try to install additional "goodies" in an attempt to earn money for you. I will not dare install anything from this site (myfavoritegadgets.info) Someone dare to test? (In VM? In Sandboxie?)  - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :)  |

In my second post I provide link to Processor Queue Length explanation only. I forgot that this page contains link to SMII Also "Many of the installers using the platform have been rated adware and Potentially Unwanted Programs (PUP, also PUA), by anti-malware product vendors" adware and Potentially Unwanted Programs not a viruses. And what they mean Potentially Unwanted Programs? For me Potentially Unwanted Programs - game Word of Tanks that my son plays. For my son Potentially Unwanted Programs is C++ compiler because him lazy and don't want learn programming :) For my wife Potentially Unwanted Programs is BOINC for many reason. I can't delete my second post. So please. Don't click any link in my second post please. http://boincstats.com/signature/0/user/2449327/project/sig.png http://boincstats.com/signature/0/team/88019747/project/sig.png |

BOINC, Word of Tanks or C++ compiler will be Potentially Unwanted Programs (PUP) - if they are installed covertly or by using misleading check-boxes - at the time when user try to install something completely different. Especially if they start automatically (on Windows login, by Scheduled Tasks) and are hard to remove (e.g. no obvious and working uninstall procedure) E.g. you install 7-Zip using the installer from download.cnet.com (instead of clean installer from 7-zip.org) Covertly the CNET installer will Download and install toolbars, Plug-ins to show ads, change home page, change search provider, etc... - all unwanted by the user. You may reconsider the way you earn money from your Software - instead of forcibly pushing ads on the user (and this way annoy and push the user away from your Software/site) you may try donations or shareware (e.g. pay after 30 days of use) Â - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) Â |
