PEOPLE ATE A LOT OF GELATIN AND SHREDDED CABBAGE BACK IN THE DAY.

It's always hard to agree on what our favorite foods are. Some people love french fries, while other people can't stand the taste of potatoes. But if there's one thing we can all agree on, it's that some foods are better left in the past.

Case in point: Weight Watcher's recipe cards from 1974. A few years ago, writer Wendy McClure stumbled upon the completely unappetizing, yet deliciously hilarious, recipe cards while helping clean out her parent's basement. She promptly created The Amazing Mackerel Pudding Plan, a book that compiled all the most questionable recipes.

Get ready to see a lot of gelatin, shredded cabbage and despair. So without further ado, here are the worst of the worst. Would you make any of these? Or better yet, do any of these ring a bell?

This is extremely close to the potato salad my mom used to make. This is a
screen capture of a recipe I found online, but I don't remember where.



Edit: I don't remember any vinegar.

Yes. And mashed potatoes with nutmeg is also nice.

I probably missed many more spicies.
One is clove, a must in gingerbread.

I like cloves, but like any spice you have to be careful. I added too much to something and it tasted really weird.

Do you have a favorite sandwich? I have a few favorites. My first favorite
comes from when I was a child. Mom would make salami and Swiss cheese
sandwiches on French bread with mustard. I make mine with a sandwich roll,
usually.

My second favorite is also from my childhood, but this one I "invented"
myself. I have to have very fresh white bread. On that I put mayonnaise,
slices of cheddar cheese, and dill pickle slices. I know it might sound a
little weird, but I really love it.

Finally, a sandwich I only started making a few years ago, when I found
jalapeno turkey cold cuts at the local grocery store. I put two slices
of jalapeno turkey and two slices of ham on rye bread. I add mayonnaise,
lettuce, sliced tomatoes, and sliced onions. Yum, yum.

Your sandwiches don't sound any weirder than my favorite late night snack sandwich which has always been a rye bread toasted mustard sandwich.

In general though, my favorite sandwich is a reuben. Arby's has one, but it's just ok, nothing special.

When I was at the grocery store the other day, they had BOGO fresh sausages, packages of five. Besides the usual Sheboygan bratwurst, beer bratwurst, mild and hot Italian, and the recently-added Polish, they had another new one: Portuguese. I bought one. I have decided I don't like it.

I picked up some regular whole milk at the grocery today, and it has an Aug. 25th sell by date on it!! How in the world is that possible?

...massively processed, not just pasteurised, homogenised, but also filtered, separated, recombined. Any relationship to what came out of the cow is accidental, its the product of some very clever process engineering and bio-chemistry.
