Deputies: Woman charged at officer in home filled with knives A beanbag round is definitely leaving a mark. It has been said the 12ga round is like getting hit by the heavy weight boxing champion. |

From our police blotter-your official "Creep Out" moment for the day: XXX was arrested for the above charge stemming from an incident that occurred on August 28, 2015. Victim alleges that XXX asked her if he could take a picture of her feet and Victim gave him permission to do so. XXX then, before the victim could react, inserted the toes of the victim's left foot into his mouth. Victim had no prior relationship with XXX and did not give him permission to do so. XXX was taken into custody and arraigned before Judge XXX of XXX Town Court where he was remanded to MCJ on $5,000 cash / $10,000 bond. |

Since we don't have an active "What are you Reading" thread.... In the Intergalactic Quotes thread, Admiral Gloval mentioned Robert Lynn Asprin's "Myth" series. That brought to mind another series of books Asprin "edited", along with his then-wife Lynn Abbey - the "Thieves' World" shared-world anthologies. I picked up the first volume on my birthday in 1979, having just reported to Submarine Group Six in Charleston, SC, waiting to join USS James Monroe Blue Crew. I "think" I have all the books in that series, including some individual character novels. Lynn Abbey resurrected the series in 2000, but I haven't found or read any but the first book "Return to Sanctuary". Anybody else read any of these? Donald Infernal Optimist / Submariner, retired |

Here are some future predictions that,,,, well did not come true: "There is no reason for any individual to have a computer in his home." Ken Olson, president, chairman and founder of Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC), 1977. There's no chance that the iPhone is going to get any significant market share. - Steve Ballmer, USA Today, April 30, 2007. Where a calculator like ENIAC today is equipped with 18,000 vacuum tubes and weighs 30 tons, computers in the future may have only 1000 vacuum tubes and perhaps weigh only 1½ tons. - March 1949, Popular Mechanics Magazine. What can be more palpably absurd than the prospect held out of locomotives traveling twice as fast as stagecoaches? - The Quarterly Review, March, 1825. A rocket will never be able to leave the Earth's atmosphere. - The New York Times, January 13, 1920. Rail travel at high speeds is not possible because passengers, unable to breathe, would die of asphyxia. - Dionysius Lardner, Professor of Natural Philosophy and Astronomy at University College. The "telephone" has too many shortcomings to be seriously considered as a means of communication. The device is inherently of no value to us. - Western Union Co. internal memo, 1876 Television won’t last because people will soon get tired of staring at a plywood box every night. - Darryl Zanuck, 1946 |

Here are some future predictions that,,,, well did not come true: The Minister of Communications Uusmann is often mistakenly quoted to as saying that "the Internet is a hype (...)", where the target was aimless surfing. This quote is actually a headline set by a headline in the Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet 12 May 1996. Uusmanns original reasoning depicted in the following quote: "I dare not have a very precise idea but I do not think people ultimately will want to pay so much time that it actually takes, to surf the net. [...] to sit and surf the net takes a whole lot of time. What is it good for? [...] it may be that there is something who have grown up now. Everyone is talking about the Internet, but perhaps it is transient and then become more of a specific direction. " |

Try not to stress too much Jim, the shock wears off after a few months.. I freaked when I got it but a bit over a year later it's not a problem. |

I HATE having been diagnosed as type 2 Diabetes!!! Much better to know than not know. And I know life isn't a party and time you want anymore. Biggest PITA for me is they really mean don't drink while taking metformin. Go to a class or three and listen. Know it will take a couple of months the get dose, diet and exercise (activity) in sync. Once you do you will feel better much more of the time. Amazing how high or low blood sugar levels affect your mood, before you get to the obvious symptom level. Welcome to the club and good luck you still have a long good life ahead! |

It took me a year to normalize my blood sugar. I had to go the whole nine yards, drugs, diet, and all the while putting up with every thing else. I was lucky to get it all back again, good luck to you in your fight! edit: If I can do it, any one can... |

Speaking of Photoshop (word link thread), does anyone think Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 plus Adobe Premier is a deal at $110? Regular price is $170, but I don't know if that's really a good real-world price for it. I got My Free estimate(in writing) on the gas furnace, turns out the furnace can't be repaired, it's too old(28yrs), 12-15yrs is the lifetime, can be extended to 20yrs, 28yrs replacement only(I've been told this by 2 places), so a replacement is needed, I'd need another $1,591.46, so I called the Community Action Partnership of San Bernardino County for help, they said there is a waiting list for this, I do have $229.65 on hand, but that's it. No not I'm asking for anything, just venting. A portable electric would cost too much to run, My best idea for the moment is getting another PC up and running, that I can do and it will give Me some heat, though I will have to remove a video card, since the fan/radiator for that card is facing the bottom of the case(heat rises), a big, no no, I read and replace the dead cpu cooler.
