My machines are not reading changed preferences when I issue an update on them. Trying to switch them from Home to Work profiles. Not working. Log files say error communicating with project, internet ok, project may be down. But everything else looks ok.

I blame Chris and Richard, they were posting to and fro a lot about British politics and what their MPs have done this time to the mad of the country.

Well, if some of MY posting didn't take it down in the past, I don't think that the debate by a couple of fine gentlemen such as they are would have injured the server's sensibilities enough to bring it down....LOL.

EDIT....
And Boinc just came back up.....

And it's getting worse. Now it fails every time. An hour or so ago it worked about every third attempt.

I blame the Pope.

Edit: And now the Replica DB went on a vacation too :-(

I'm not seeing any problems here, except one download failure (which is not that unusual inside our firewall/proxy). Ready-to-send buffer had taken a nosedive on the SSP earlier but seems to be recovering.

I don't have any pending transfers & there are no errors in my logs for today. Seems like it may be a DNS issue for some.

Not buying it is DNS issue. Log files show that uploads are still taking place. I can read the web site ok. I powered down my router\modem, waited 20 sec, restarted. Issue persists. Flushed DNS cache on a Win 7 machine, problem persists.

Not a DNS issue... Now I'm getting "Couldn't connect to server", where before it was "Failure receiving data from server"...

Having just re-connected a machine with an empty cache, the downloads are proceeding at pre-colo speeds, around 7 or 8 Kbps.

Having one download server offline might be contributing to that.

I take it nobody tried a tracert?

I was mainly using the BOINC website, rather than here, at the time, and got a variety of browser responses from (something like) 'unable to locate address' to 'connection refused'.

It might be worth noting that today is the first day of preparation for a major network overhaul at the Berekeley campus:

IST Scheduled Maintenance DNS and DHCP Change Freezes

Outage Type: SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE
Date Submitted: Wednesday, September 30 – Wednesday, October 28, 2015
Outage Start/End Time: 1700 – 0400
Groups impacted: All Campus DNS Users, Registrants of new MAC Addresses for DHCP
Equipment: DNS, DHCP and IP Address Management Infrastructure

Description: On Wednesday October 28th, 2015, Network Operations and Services will be abating its legacy infrastructure supporting the following critical campus network services:

DNS
DHCP
IP Address Management

In order to achieve a smooth transition to the new systems, IST staff will be implementing the following freezes and moratoriums on changes:

No requests for new subdomains (DNS Zones) will be processed after close of business on Wednesday September 30th. IST staff do not expect this to impact users and departments because these types of requests are infrequent.

After the close of business on Wednesday October 21st, no requested changes to DNS will be processed until after cut-over and testing work is completed on Wednesday October 28th.

No new Wired Network Device registrations will be accepted in the old system after close of business on Wednesday October 21st, until the new system is in place on October 28th.

Note that this means that no new device can obtain campus DHCP IP addresses and thus wired network connectivity during this time period.

All of that should be invisible to off-campus end users like us, but it wouldn't surprise me if there were some wobbly steps along the way.

Well, I'm getting "Scheduler request failed: Couldn't connect to server" for the last 3 hours. Upload seems to be okay.

I notice that in the message Richard has quoted contains the dreaded "Should" word - which of course must be read as "Will cause the unexpected to happen"...
