In this case we mean...

What do you mean?

Ok Mr picky "I mean" then. Happy now?

Thanks:)
I know that royalties sometimes adress themselves as we.
I dont think you are royalty.

Another funny thing about adressing in english is that you dont use different word for You singularis and You plural.
I think all other germanic languages does that.
Such as Ich and Du in german. Jag och Du in swedish.
This can be very confusing to us.

A mosquito is the response to the boom box!

As a boom box clears out all the adults in an area, the mosquito clears out all the youth. :)

Who still uses a boom box though? That stuff is almost ancient tech :P

Other commonly used terms are ghetto blaster, jambox, boomblaster, Brixton briefcase, and radio-cassette. A boombox is a device typically capable of receiving radio stations and playing recorded music (usually cassettes or CDs, usually at a high volume).

They probably still do there.

I thought teachers were not supposed to make assumptions?

I assume that lorry drivers are allowed to though ...

Within the Classroom that may be generally correct, but occasionally you have to have to make judgement calls as a lesson progresses and amend it on the hoof. But as you very well know I retired 4 years ago, so why you keep bringing this up is food for thought to all others here. No work today? Or just bored?

Bringing what up? I'm passing comments on what is being said. Aren't I allowed to do that?

You continue to denigrate my employment. Let's see, how many professions have you stated you worked in? Are you qualified in all of those?

Very nice example you're setting for the youth on this thread "Praise the lord & pass the ammunition".

I belong to a number of professional institutions, and my qualifications are these letters after my name. MBCS MiFL AIITT ACITP.

They are not qualifications. They are proof of membership. Next.

As for the rest, good work, but still laugh my ass off at ECDL. Driving a computer? Whatever next? :-)

I have AMRSC after my name (Associate Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry) for which i needed a post-graduate degree at merit or distinction, so the two aren't mutually exclusive.

Quite true. However, for one that has been so "expertly" trained, to see others being denigrated REGARDLESS of their qualifications makes one wonder...

...ARE they that bored with their life that they seek attention?

One is an academic qualification mainly aimed at office workers, the other is a professional institutional Membership. To get those Memberships you have to demonstrate technical ability and workplace experience at a medium or senior responsibility level over some years.

Simon will be a full member of his institution in time, as indeed he should be. Outside Europe there is the ICDL, and there is also an advanced level ECDL as well.

MOS

MOS stands for Microsoft Office Specialist.
I have never met one.
Perhaps they are sitting in Front Desk or Help Desk in a company as a support to the office workers.

But what has this to do being afraid for teenagers?

Here we have boom box cars instead.
Yes you drivin' me crazy with your boom box automobile
Yeah you drivin' me crazy with your boom box automobile

Now I'd love to see you lose the keys to that menace on four wheels
It's so amplified... ain't no wonder why your paint's begun to peel
And those sub woofers hammerin' they're givin' my head a pain
It's either you or me if its me you see I'll jus' cop the plea...
Hey judge... I'm insane
I'm sore insane

Indeed.

First of all, I am pretty sure young people don't even use 'boomboxes' any more. That was more an 80s thing. Young people have headphones or the play music directly from their phones (which I do find annoying when they do it on buses).

As to his comments about Brixton, it appears that Brixton has changed. I went back for a visit and its gone very hipster. They apparently even have an oyster and champagne bar in the market now. I did not see any boomboxes, although to be honest I have never seen one there. Probably because I moved there in the 90s and not the 80s.

Perhaps this thread is really about how awful my generation is, rather than young people, as we were the ones that hung around with boomboxes and listened to hiphop?

It was a hit song here, but I did not know the connection to Brixton Riots until a year ago. Strangely, the connection was made for me by a show on BBC America.

I wasn't living there during the '81 riots, although I did have classmates who were. So I remember what they told me about it.

I was there during the 1995 riots and remember them well. I watched them brick in the windows of the job centre across the street and set fire to Carpet Land.
