So, Ephebiphobia is something like this?

Well, speaking as someone that already gets Senior Citizen discounts in some places (without even requesting them), I must say that the behavior of many people in their teens and early twenties can be down right annoying, just like the behavior of us old phartz is to them.

Way back in the stone age when I was a kid, the term 'Generation Gap' was all the rage. Why is it now all the rage to term that one group of people not liking another group a *phobia? Trying to make them appear to be mentally ill, instead of being just someone with a negative opinion about some others? Last I heard we all have the right to have negative opinions about others, a right that is frequently exercised here, even in this thread.

People need to settle down and chill out and stop trying to belittle others by putting them into 'boxes' with bad sounding names on them. Please stop practicing the politics of division; it gets in the way of all of us coming together as... well... humanity. Everyone is an *ist or a *phobic about something or another. You have a right to your own opinions. So do they.

There, I've said my peace.

Have a nice day.

The truth is that people in the age group mentioned DO tend to congregate in groups, smoke, drink, generally misbehave, and play loud music. We've all seen it and experienced it, so it cannot be denied.

No, the truth is that a small minority of teens sometimes do that. And aside from 'generally misbehaving' smoking, drinking and playing loud music are not necessarily illegal (especially not when they are doing it on PUBLIC property) or a reason to use a device that targets EVERYONE in that particular age group.

How were these kids brought up that they think that anti-social behaviour is acceptable? Yet when I say large numbers of people aren't fit to breed you begin to see why I think that.

How is hanging out with friends 'anti-social' behavior? Seems to me its the exact opposite of that.

Its only anti social behavior because it apparently annoys some older people, even when those people don't do anything wrong. Their mere presence is an annoyance, and its an annoyance because those people don't see a bunch of kids hanging out, but rather a bunch of negative stereotypes about kids. They are judged guilty of all sorts of stuff before they have even done any of that.

Replace "age group" with some other categorization (race, nationality, religion, car owners, sports fans, etc.) and see how it sounds. If the observation remains true for multiple categories, perhaps the response should not target one specific group over any other.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that ...

@Bobby - Yes, replace "age group" with some other categorization (race, nationality, religion, car owners, sports fans, etc. Then add "But not to the general annoyance of the public at large".

@Мишелb - Tami has already given her age as 23, care to give yours?

@Janne - Another excuse to post one of your youtube clips.

The public at large?
Please explain.
A youtube clip would be nice:)

That is nothing new. There were many a time a police patrol car stopped us & asked what were we doing? Stop annoying our neighbours & where do you live?

They were stomped as we told them that we are each others neighbours & that our parents did not mind as we were all in sight of each other. When we pointed to where we lived, they drove off ( we were in the street we lived).

That did not stop them from questioning us every so often. The difference between then & now is that we did not carry...

...knives, guns, booze or drugs. Were never out until all hours of the night, so what changed?

Ah, the usual anti Chris S gang appear right on cue, getting very predictable lads.

Why do you believe it's personal? Where are the ad homs directed at you? To imply that others are posting out of some sort of malice towards you, rather than from their own convictions, is somewhat insulting. FWIW, some years ago in response to Guy/brutus asking "What's the next individual right that we're currently violating and need to fix?" I posted "The rights of children" (it's here if you're interested).

@Bobby - Yes, replace "age group" with some other categorization (race, nationality, religion, car owners, sports fans, etc. Then add "But not to the general annoyance of the public at large".

Why is behavior by one group annoying to the public at large, while the same behavior by another group is not?

@Мишелb - Tami has already given her age as 23, care to give yours?

What purpose is served by providing ages?

Then why did you lie to that woman who complained about you saying you were 75?

(Tally 24 posts in 24 hours)

Why do you read ALL my postings???
And count them!!!

She asked a very stupid question.
It was not me playing with the kids.
It was Tosca!
She becomes 1 year next month...

Because our Dutch friend has openly posted that he is doing an MSC at Uni in European Politics, therefore he is likely to be in his 20's, and therefore most likely to agree with the opinions of Tami and Smokey.

He has now confirmed that he is 26, and yes it is relevant. people in their 20's are at one extreme of the argument, people in their 60's+ are at the other end. You would expect them never to agree. What I want to hear from is those in their 40's who are probably transitioning from one view to the other, and should therefore be able to see both sides, and hopefully come with a workable solution.

Any takers?

How nice of you to think that I merely agree with people because they are about the same age as me and that the reason I disagree with you is because you are to old.

The reality is that I will agree with anyone who makes a more sensible and logical argument. If that happens to be Tami and Smokey that will be because they made a good argument and nothing else. For the record, I didn't know Tami's age until you mentioned it earlier and in the other thread I strongly disagreed with some of the points Smokey was making, nor do I know how old he is. And honestly, when the biggest counter argument from you relies heavily on negative stereotypes and silly generalizations about young people, yeah maybe you see why I'm not that impressed by your logic here.

This is just another attempt to dismiss an opposing view through some silly attempt at delegitimizing the person who has that view. My views don't make sense and I only make them because of my age if I was as old as you I would agree with you, well that is some pretty horrible display of ageism. So yeah, maybe keep peoples ages out of this, because its irrelevant.

I had no idea this word existed, let alone what it means. I do recall this little saying "Hire a teenager while he/she still knows everything."

My motto: Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow as it may not be required. This no longer applies in light of current events.

But I do see stalking and sustained harassment as requiring legal redress. When some person says something and the same 3 or 4 people all turn up and decry it, then it is fairly obvious that there is a some sort of organised response going on. Well whoopie doo, I should be so deserving ....

The community of posters in Politics is relatively small. Thus, when you

simply tell

your opinion via many many posts, it should not be surprising to find dissent.

Also, I do not think you will find (here or much elsewhere) these transitioning 40-somethings you seek.

Maybe thats because you keep saying things a lot of people disagree with. And you do tend to say a lot of things that are racist, sexist, xenophobic and now also ageist.

What I do is simply tell the truth. But there are some around here that have skins as thin as rice paper, and when they get told a few home truths that they don't like, they go crying mummy mummy that nasty man wasn't nice to me. Anything I have said I would be prepared to go into a court of law with, and ask a jury to convict me of either slander or libel. They wouldn't of course because I haven't committed either.

No, you tell your view on the truth. And as it happens, some people here myself being one of them, think you have an extremely warped view on the truth. Which is what I've been criticizing, your views, which I consider to be at points racist, sexist, xenophobic or ageist.

You're a bit of a know it all for 26 aren't you? Oooh look an honest observation, but let's see it as a personal attack!

Yeah, you'd think I would be insulted by being accused of 'knowing to much' but quite frankly I consider it a compliment. Thank you, and yes, I do know a lot of stuff.
