Message 1709457 - Posted: 6 Aug 2015, 20:46:04 UTC

I have started using Seti and am running it on my laptop now. And the processors are running at 121% which I wouldn't think is good for the overall life expectancy of my laptop.
Can someone please help me set it so it doesn't feel like it is trying to kill my laptop

Then set your preferences to only do work when the computer is idle.
Or tell BOINC not to use all processors.
Since you're also allowing work to be done on the Intel GPU inside your CPU and on the Nvidia GPU, you'll see a lot more work happening than you have CPU cores.

And of course, you should be able to disable the Intel Turbo Boost if that's what causing the overdrive. How and where however, is something I cannot help you with.

Where are you seeing 121%? Task Manager only goes to 100% no matter how many CPUs you have.

But that point aside, you're right, running a laptop at full bore is not good and will reduce it's life significantly. Depending on where you prefer to set your preferences (I use web preferences, though some people use local preferences right in the BOINC client), go to your Computing Preferences and change the Use at Most x% of the CPUs (this controls how many cores, for example setting it to 50% on a dual core machine would use 1 core), or you can set Use at Most x% of CPU time (for example, setting this to 50% will run the science apps full bore for 1 second, then off for 1 second to achieve a 50% timeframe). Or you can mix and match those preferences to suit your own needs.

You could try downloading the Temperature Throttle App from CNET which will give you control of processor and fan speeds etc. However when all said and done I personally would be reluctant to use a laptop for a protracted length of time on what is quite a demanding program. Best Regards John.T.Daly
There is anybody out there!
