Continuing on my "sunny " theme there is a brand new railcam out there Yes that is an Amtrak train approaching. Anyone care to guess the location. I had never heard of it!! That is the south view. |

San Juan Capistrano? So as an "upper left coast " person, I wonder how you would know that seeing as it is definitely a "lower left coast" place!! |

Easy, Google search for image and I got lucky. He didn't tell you the name of the restaurant it is attached to though. And the swallows have already returned. http://www.swallowsparade.com/ |

Have to admit I haven't been watching the train cams that much recently. Also not heard from David for 4 months, I hope he is OK and it is just his job keeping him away. Anyway I happened to be looking at the Virtual Railfan You-tube page when this caught my eye. The UP "office train" on the Horseshoe Curve on the 31st May. Led led UP 1943, a new commemorative engine honouring the U.S. Armed Forces. Description from UP “The Spirit's front is symbolic of Air Force Silver, and the blue stripe is a reflection of the former Strategic Air Command's "nose sash." The lettering inside the sash is the original hand-drawn font used on the B-17. It is followed by the Coast Guard's "Racing Stripe" and the Navy's Battleship Gray, which frames Union Pacific's traditional American flag. The military camouflage is a nod to the Army and Marines… the final message on the tail is dedicated to U.S. prisoners of war and those missing in action, featuring the POW/MIA symbol and its motto, "You Are Not Forgotten." The rest of the train was interesting as well Many well presented cars, this is "Omaha" And two dome cars "Harriman" And "City of San Francisco" Seems the group of school kids enjoyed it too To see the complete video go here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jl6NE8VZqC0 |

Yes it has been too long to have heard from David. Hope he is well. Don't have a picture, but a couple days ago a car cut me off on my commute home with a license plate frame "Amtrak Engineering" |

Since I have not been keeping up with the rail cam sites recently I decided it was time to get an update. Railstream have added one new camera at Franklin Park IL, 17 miles west of Chicago. No Amtrak, but it is on the Metra Milwaukee District West an has the MP36 as motive power Seems to be all commuter type traffic with the occasional freight, like this very red Canadian Pacific GP38-2 Virtual Rail fan have added 4 locations, Jonesborough TN, which seems to be part of the local steam museum. Kansas City MO, on the freight line, no passenger at all. Then Norwalk CT, which is on the North East Corridor about 40 miles north east of New York and sees all the Amtrak services between New York and Boston as well as the MTA Metro North trains to New Haven, Danbury and Waterbury. This is where the Amtrak ACS-64 loco's that were seen being delivered via Chicago ended up. Amtk 658 heading for NY then Washington DC Also The Acelas use this route but a a speed that means they are more than just a blur. The Metro North trains are mostly 8 car EMU's make by Kawasaki and known as the M8 However on the Danbury branch today I saw this. Nothing unusual you might say except it is a Brookville BL20GH. Which until an hour ago I had never heard of!! The final new camera is at Skykomish Washington (state NOT DC) this is well out in the wilds and closer to Canada than most of the rest of the USA and has a population of around 200. No station, but there seems to be an equipment yard of some sort. However it does have Amtrak trains 7 and 8 pass through. This is the Empire builder, Chicago to Seattle, 2200 miles of what is often said to be the most scenic Amtrak route. Sorry about the lamp, but unfortunately whislt this camera can point the other way only Amtrak 7 passes during the day. This is the view in the other direction. That will be interesting in the winter. So now Railstream has 22 cameras in 17 locations and Virtual Railfan has 33 cameras in 19 locations. 55 cameras is just too much to try and cover. There was a time I watched all the Amtrak trains passing the cameras, that would just be impossible now. |

Yesterday, I had an unusual companion while waiting to change trains at Leeds - a very bruised and battered 37516 on charter duties. She made a nice contrast with the station mural I booked the trip partly to see how our new public-sector operator LNER is getting on. They took over on Sunday 24 June: I booked on their website on the 25th, and the tickets arrived in the post on the 26th, in a smart LNER printed folder. By yesterday, the platform coach location markers, the luggage trollies, and even the 'slippery when wet' warning in the toilets had all been rebranded. Only the trains were still flying a false flag. |

Car vs train, very Darwinian result. |

Just noticed there was another car vs train a couple of weeks ago at Thomasville NC. See it here, best watch full screen, no injuries luckily. Watch how long it takes the freight to stop!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5QvsuCBOjIo Question, if you find yourself trapped between the two gates, why do so many panic and not just drive through the gate? |

Some pics of my model railroad. I need to take some shots of the larger area. Been working on it for a year now. All the LED lighting is hand-done by me. I'm putting myself to the fullest possible use, which is all, I think, that any conscious entity can ever hope to do. |
