Yay..tow guy used to be a subaru mechanic. Thinks it's just a Solenoid issue!!!

Win!

I don't see how a bad solenoid can drip oil.

Maybe not the solenoid itself, but I suppose if it were controlling the crankcase ventilation system, pressure could build up in the engine and start blowing oil out of places it would not normally come from.

Okay, I'm not a "car guy," but I know a little. I thought the solenoid was the relay that is activated by the ignition key/button and connects the battery to the starter.

Third car I owned, 79 Chevy something, two days after I bought it, the starter casing broke off a chunk. It got stuck in the solenoid. Somehow, the starter was disengaged from the engine and running wild. I figured if I didn't do something quickly, it would burn itself up. The only thing I could think of was to disconnect the battery. This was midnight at the gas station where I worked. I called a friend to take me home and left the car in the way all the next day, until another friend could replace the starter for me.

Ping!

That is one solenoid. Solenoids are also used for many other things, Automatic door lock, trunk release, gas cap release, cold start throttle advance, emergency engine stop switches, fuel tank selector switch, battery selector switch, etc.

I went to a birthday party for dinner. The hostess served roast pork in a cherry shallot sauce, steamed green beans and a Brussel's sprout gratin that was very good. I brought the cakes.
