And this is my hand-held anemometer/wind chill factor device, from about the same time period: The mind is a weird and mysterious place

This weather station is circa 1979? I still have it on the wall, but took it outside to get a good photo: The mind is a weird and mysterious place

Very interesting! I have considered going with almost the exact same setup that you have done here, but always find myself getting a little nervous about the Geo-Cords for my house being on the internet. But then again you can find most everything about a person who uses the internet on the internet. Ah yes rainfall!!! My station shows that we had 1-1/2" in 6 hours yesterday. Doesn't sound much but it was a pretty solid downpour for all that time. The local weather station also agreed. The river Thames level locally raised 18" by 9pm. I have links to river gauges. |

Hey! Congrats, good stuff :-) Thanks, the on-board fan isn't doing enough to keep the temp down to reality, compared to other stations nearby, but it will be interesting to compare rainfall events. The mind is a weird and mysterious place

Did you open the ports in the router's firewall? AcuRite got me connected to their servers, but so far the data still isn't being communicated to Weather Underground. Slow business; shouldn't be, but oh well. I guess Weather Underground has a huge backlog of incoming new stations to go through their server process. The mind is a weird and mysterious place

Did you open the ports in the router's firewall? I checked to make sure MAC filtering is not enabled. Well, I just tinkered with my router's firewall, and ended up offline. ;~O I guess I'll wait and see what customer service from AcuRite has to tell me. The mind is a weird and mysterious place

One little word of advice here, DON'T USE RE-CHARGABLES!! They have only 1.2V as against the others that have 1.5V. I use Duracell Ultra power Alkaline batteries. Batteries |

Not yet in about 4 years. The batteries in the temp/humidity sensor need renewing every 6 months for the wireless connection, but that is about it. What I have is the WH1070 I'm afraid a bird looking for a nesting spot would love my rain collector basin. Supposedly, alkaline batts are ok unless it gets really cold. Is that what you use, or lithium? The mind is a weird and mysterious place

Very nice-looking setup, Chris. I just felt better about sinking mine in the ground rather than mounting on my house, and I don't have a nice shed like that. Do you ever have need to clean out the rain gauge? The mind is a weird and mysterious place

The anemometer for wind speed is at the top. The precipitation catcher is on the right, previously described, and the temperature and humidity sensors are on the left. It is all mounted on a 1-1/4" pole from the garden shed, at about 18 ft high. Any more and it would need a 2" pole and guy ropes. |

Thank you, Chris. The primitive weather station my folks had, I checked to make sure MAC filtering is not enabled. I'll look at the firewall. The mind is a weird and mysterious place

Thank you, Chris. The primitive weather station my folks had, Well, I remember my old 1970's plastic rain gauge very well. It was pretty nice and sturdy, actually, but eventually became hard to read from being baked in the sun and stained with algae. My first anemometer was cool, but rusted out eventually. I still have a great aneroid barometer, and hygrometer, that is also from the 70's. I'm a little dubious of the electronic barometer technology of my new unit. The outdoor unit is communicating with an indoor display, but I'm having trouble getting the system to register itself online. It has an "internet bridge" plugged directly into my router, and I've typed the MAC address a million times, but so far no luck. :~( Customer service is not staffed on the weekends, so I'll just have to wait 'til Monday. Thank you, Chris. The primitive weather station my folks had, 20yrs, ago, required manual emptying. I figured an improvement, here, had to have been made. I stand updated. :o) |

Jim, most rain measurements in these weather stations have a collector in the form of a rocker mechanism with two small containers. Once one is full with rain gravity toggles it, a signal is detected and recorded that it has done that. The other container then starts to fill up etc. There is a drain hole in the bottom for the water to dissipate. |
